What's the best time to visit Bangkok?
The best months for a Bangkok vacation are December, January, and February.
It rarely rains during these months, temperatures hover around 86–91°F (30–33°C), and — most importantly — the humidity is much more manageable than the rest of the year, which makes sightseeing a whole lot more enjoyable.
These months also coincide with some spectacular Thai festivals that are seriously worth seeing.
The rainy season kicks off in May and peaks in September and October. It doesn’t rain all day — usually just an hour or so — but the humidity gets really oppressive. The hottest stretch is March through May, when temperatures can hit around 104°F (40°C).
What's the best way to get around Bangkok?
Getting around Bangkok can genuinely be a challenge. Travel by car means you’re pretty much always stuck in traffic — it can get so bad that taxi drivers refuse to go to certain parts of the city during rush hour.
Public transport has improved a lot in recent years though. There’s the Skytrain (BTS), the Metro (MRT), and the Airport Rail Link (SARL), which gets you from the airport into the city for around $3.50.
The ferry on the Chao Phraya River is another great option — a smart way to beat the gridlock. Bangkok’s network of small canals also has water taxis that are well worth using.
And of course, tuk-tuks are everywhere. They weave right through traffic, getting you from A to B quickly and cheaply — just agree on a price before you hop in.

Bangkok is one of the most affordable major cities in Asia. Street food can cost as little as 1–2 euros and it’s absolutely delicious. Hotels won’t break the bank either — around 100 euros a night can already get you a room at a luxury hotel.
How long should you spend in Bangkok?
Bangkok is enormous, and seeing everything in one trip just isn’t realistic.
That said, to hit the major highlights and actually soak up the city, you should plan for at least one week.
Is Bangkok safe?
Bangkok is no more dangerous than most major cities. The usual rules apply: keep a close eye on your valuables, especially in crowded areas.
Tourist scams are something to watch out for — taxi drivers who conveniently “forget” to turn on the meter, or tuk-tuk drivers who promise a tour of the highlights but make suspiciously long detours through souvenir shops.
Otherwise, use common sense, be respectful of local religion and customs, and absolutely do not insult the king — that can genuinely result in a prison sentence.
