Valencia is a relatively compact city. The distances between the individual attractions in Valencia are short and almost everything is within walking distance.
That said, when choosing your accommodation in Valencia, there are a few neighborhoods that work best.
- Old Town: Ideal for first-time visitors and anyone who wants to be right in the middle of it all
- Camins al Grau: Great location with slightly more affordable hotels. Also an excellent choice for families.
- El Cabanyal: This is where you’ll find beachfront hotels.

Right in the Middle: Staying in Valencia's Old Town
A hotel in Valencia’s Old Town is the best choice if you’re visiting for the first time and want to reach the main sights on foot.
The Old Town is the heart of Valencia. If you book your place to stay there, you can reach virtually all of Valencia’s major highlights on foot — including the Cathedral and the Mercat Central.
The Old Town has great transport connections. From the airport, you can take the Metro directly to Estación del Norte and then walk to your hotel from there.
In the Old Town, you’ll also find many of the best restaurants and cafés in Valencia, so you’ll have everything you need for a perfect stay right on your doorstep.
Advantages of staying in the Old Town:
- You’re right in the heart of Valencia and can reach the top sights on foot.

Disadvantages of staying in the Old Town:

Budget-Friendly: Staying in Camins El Grau
A hotel in the Camins El Grau neighborhood is the best choice if you want more affordable lodging but still a great location.
Camins El Grau sits between the Old Town and Valencia’s beaches. It borders the Jardín del Turia and the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, both of which you can reach on foot in just a few minutes.
The area is primarily residential, but you’ll find plenty of restaurants and cafés that tend to be a bit less touristy than those in the Old Town.
In Camins El Grau you’ll find large hotels from well-known chains such as Barceló and Eurostars, as well as some newer, modern hotels that come highly recommended.
By bus, you can reach both the Old Town and the beach in about ten minutes — or walk to either in around 25 minutes.
The location is also ideal if you’re traveling to Valencia with your family. Many kid-friendly attractions are right nearby.
Advantages of staying in Camins El Grau:
- Hotels here are more affordable than at the beach or in the Old Town.
- Plenty of restaurants and cafés.
- The Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències is just around the corner.
- You can quickly get to the beach and the historic center by bus.
Disadvantages of staying in Camins El Grau:
- You’re not right in the Old Town.
- The area doesn’t have the typical Valencia vibe.
- From the airport, you’ll need to transfer once when using public transportation.

On the Beach: Staying in El Cabanyal
A hotel in the El Cabanyal neighborhood is the best choice if you want to stay right on the beach.
El Cabanyal is where Valencia’s city beaches begin, stretching several miles northward from there.
If you want to combine your city trip with beach time, this is the spot for you. Around the harbor and along the beachfront promenade, you’ll find loads of great restaurants.
El Cabanyal is very well connected — by public transportation, you can reach the Old Town in about 25 minutes.
