In a nutshell

  • In this article, we share 7 truly under-the-radar hotel picks for South Tyrol. But what makes a hotel an insider tip for us?
  • We look for hotels in lesser-known areas of South Tyrol, places that have recently opened, and accommodations that are small, personal, or especially affordable.
  • Our top picks are the Belvenu Boutique Hotel in the historic town of Glurns and the Eisenhut in Bolzano — the value for money at both is excellent.
  • All seven hotels are sorted by price — ascending from budget to luxury — so you can find the right fit straight away.

Belvenu Boutique Hotel

The Belvenu Boutique Hotel is a genuine under-the-radar find in South Tyrol in every way: the unique location, the historic building, and the seriously affordable price.

It’s situated in the charming village of Glurns in the Vinschgau valley — the smallest town in South Tyrol. The town walls of Glurns are still fully intact, and the historic center is absolutely adorable.

The Belvenu Boutique Hotel itself is also a historic building, right in the heart of town. The rooms are designed in bright, understated colors with modern furnishings.

The hotel features a lovely wellness area and a cozy rooftop terrace with mountain views. Cyclists traveling along the Etsch Cycle Path can store their bikes securely.

And here’s the best part: the price for this fantastic hotel is incredibly affordable. In the off-season, like November, you can get a double room for around 120 euros.

The Hotel Gasthaus Post is located near the Brenner Pass, close to Sterzing, in the charming village of Maria Trens — perfect for a stopover or a vacation well off the tourist trail.

The pilgrimage village of Maria Trens is a real local favorite, very popular with locals but largely unknown to visitors. The surrounding area is great for hiking and stopping in at a family-run mountain pasture inn.

The Hotel Gasthof Post is run by three women — so you can expect pure girl power here. And excellent value for money is guaranteed too.

The rooms are simple and designed in bright, inviting colors. There’s no unnecessary frills — but there’s no shortage of great service delivered with care and warmth either.

The highlight of the hotel is the delicious home-cooked food — traditional yet with a modern twist. Fresh, local ingredients are guaranteed — yum!

Eisenhut Boutique Hotel

The Eisenhut is our top pick for where to stay in Bolzano. It opened in 2025 and isn’t quite as well known yet as other places to stay in Bolzano’s old town — which is also why prices are comparatively low.

The hotel’s concept is clear: ultra-modern design within historic walls. The building was mentioned as far back as the 11th century and served as an inn for about 730 years — pretty cool!

But there’s no trace of that old inn atmosphere left in this boutique hotel in South Tyrol today. Instead, you’ll find stunning designs in stylish pastel tones that complement the ancient walls perfectly.

The soundproofing is also amazing — you won’t hear a thing from the hustle and bustle of the popular Bindergasse in Bolzano once you’re inside.

With a fitness center, a great breakfast spread, and a terrace, this city hotel has everything you need!

Gloriette Guesthouse Boutiquehotel

The Gloriette Guesthouse Boutiquehotel is located in Oberbozen, right next to the cable car that takes you to the best sights in Bolzano. And since you receive the Ritten Card with your stay, the ride is even free.

The hotel’s location is a dream. Oberbozen is peaceful and quiet, and you’re treated to breathtaking mountain views. The best vantage point at the Gloriette is from the rooftop pool — seriously incredible!

You can also enjoy the stunning panorama from the spa area and the rooms with balconies. All 25 rooms are beautifully furnished — elegant wood tones meet stylish pops of color.

The food at the Gloriette is top-notch as well. With a high-quality breakfast, your day can only get off to a great start, and in the evening you can treat yourself à la carte.

The rooms are bright with large windows — so the moment you wake up, you’re greeted by a lovely view of the greenery.

The property also includes an idyllic little lake that radiates pure tranquility — a perfect match for the peaceful setting of Hotel Seehof, which truly lives up to its Nature Retreat name.

A real insider pick for an overnight stay in South Tyrol: the Vitalpina Hotel Schulerhof (© Vitalpina Hotel Schulerhof)

The Vitalpina Hotel Schulerhof is a small, cozy place to stay in South Tyrol near Merano. It’s located in the less-crowded Vinschgau valley, in the village of Plaus.

The Vitalpina is especially great for food lovers, as the dinner brings a new surprise every single day, and the breakfast buffet is excellent too.

But if you’re visiting South Tyrol for cycling, you’re in great hands here as well. You can borrow bikes free of charge, and there’s a lockable bike garage with tools.

After a day on the bike or in the mountains, the wellness area provides the perfect way to unwind — with a sauna, steam bath, and indoor & outdoor pool, it’s very well equipped.

The rooms are furnished with elegant wood elements and warm wood tones and offer plenty of space. Apartments are available for families with children as well.

Castel Maurn

The Castel Maurn is a personal, one-of-a-kind luxury hotel in South Tyrol that leaves nothing to be desired. It’s one of our favorite hotels in the Dolomites region.

The location near Bruneck is ideal — especially if you want to visit highlights like the Three Peaks and Lake Braies.

Within the walls of a building over 1,000 years old, you’ll find 8 elegant suites where modernity meets tradition.

Because there are so few rooms, every guest receives individual attention. You can even have breakfast brought to your room, for example.

Another real standout is the spa area, which feels like being inside a museum — only with a sauna, steam bath, and more. The heated outdoor pool is absolutely beautiful and is even open in winter. An exceptional under-the-radar wellness retreat in South Tyrol.
