El Poblado is the most developed neighborhood in Medellín. It feels noticeably more Western here than in other parts of the city.

The Metro gets you to every corner of the city easily — though avoid rush hour, as the station gets seriously packed. Uber and Didi are good alternatives for getting around.
El Poblado is also one of the safer neighborhoods in Medellín. During the day you can walk pretty much everywhere. At night, it’s better to use Uber rather than walking between spots.

Los Laureles is a great place to stay if you want a more authentic experience in Medellín without giving up on tourist infrastructure.
Los Laureles strikes the perfect balance between local life and amenities for travelers. It’s safe, and that’s made it the second go-to neighborhood after El Poblado — but it doesn’t feel touristy at all. We mostly saw locals on the streets, most restaurants serve local cuisine, and prices are noticeably lower than in El Poblado.
The absolute highlight here is the Estadio Atanasio Girardot — home of Atlético Nacional. The location is also really strategic, sitting between La Candelaria and the famous Comuna 13, which makes it a great base for exploring Medellín’s top sights.
