In a nutshell
- On Juist, you’ll mostly find vacation rentals for a variety of needs. A handful of hotels round out the options — usually spa hotels for those who want to indulge in some wellness on the island. Vacation homes are available here and there.
- Our picks focus on value for money, amenities, and design — and on making sure your stay simply feels right.
- Our advantage: we have a native Juist islander on our team. That makes our selection of accommodations on Juist even more handpicked than it already is.
- Our personal favorites are: Haus Delft Lita, Haus Ahoi, Dünenzeit Juist, and Kurhaus Juist.
Where to Stay on Juist?
Juist is easy to get your bearings on. The island is roughly divided into three areas: the Loog in the west, the central village at the heart of the island, and the Ostdorf (East Village).
At the eastern end you’ll find the small island airport, in the west the Juister Bill and the island farm, and in between roughly six miles of sand, dunes, things to do on Juist, and salt marshes.
No matter where you stay on Juist: you’re always just a short walk from the beach and can get anywhere by bike. That means you can choose your accommodation on Juist entirely based on your own preferences rather than worrying about location.
That said, here’s a quick rundown to give you some context:
- Loog: toward the west, quiet, very green, many island locals live here
- Village/Town Center: central, most hotels and vacation rentals, shops, and activities
- Ostdorf: many island locals live here too, but it’s a bit less green and a little more built up
We’ve mapped out the different parts of the island and some of the most important highlights here to help you get oriented:

Honestly, every part of Juist is beautiful. That said, we especially love the Loog area and along Billstraße. The entire stretch to the excursion destination Juister Bill — and the Bill itself — is simply stunning!
The Loog and the Bill are in the western part of the island. It’s a great area for walks, with lovely beach access points, cafés, and the coastal museum. Billstraße stretches through part of the island’s center and runs along the dikes.

When is peak season on Juist?
The main season on Juist runs annually from May or June through September. After that, there’s a brief shoulder season through the end of October, followed by a largely quiet period on the island.
If you prefer a more relaxed North Sea vacation, it’s worth considering whether the shoulder season is a better time for your trip to Juist.
Of course, you can also visit Juist in winter — the island is absolutely worth a trip even then. We love bundling up and taking a stroll on the beach, then warming up afterward in a cozy teahouse. Just pack a few extra pairs of wool socks to be safe.
When is Juist at its most affordable?
In January and February, Juist is at its cheapest. This applies especially to accommodation. A few of the attractions have modified hours during the winter months or don’t reopen until spring.
