What You Need to Know Before Your Stay in the Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands have very few accommodation options. Most of what you’ll find here are apartments and small vacation homes.
In Tórshavn there are also hotels, but only very few. Most of them are genuinely good mid-range hotels.
Road Trip or One Home Base?
You can plan your trip in two ways. You can do a road trip around the Faroe Islands and move from place to place.
Or you stay in just one spot and take day trips. That’s what we did, and it worked out great. Our apartment was in Tórshavn.
How Much Does a Night in the Faroe Islands Cost?
A night for two people costs at least 130 euros, but usually more. Prices vary a lot depending on whether it’s peak season or not.
In peak season, from April through September, you should expect to pay 130 to 370 euros for a good double room or a nice vacation apartment.

In Tórshavn on the Main Island of Streymoy
In the capital city of Tórshavn, you’ll find by far the largest selection of places to stay. This is where you’ll find most of the hotels.
Tórshavn is the largest city and offers the most nightlife options and is a great base for exploring the beautiful European islands. There are several restaurants, cafés, and even a couple of bars.
Tórshavn is located on the main island of Streymoy, the largest of the Faroe Islands.

Havgrim Seaside Hotel 1948 in Tórshavn
The Havgrim Seaside Hotel 1948 is probably the only boutique hotel in the Faroe Islands. It’s a small, family-run hotel located right on the water.
In some rooms you can hear the waves at night and enjoy a breathtaking view. The rooms themselves are bright and feature a modern design.
Every morning you’ll be treated to a truly delicious breakfast with fresh salmon from the Faroe Islands in the charming breakfast room — also with a sea view, of course.
It’s about a 15-minute walk from the Havgrim Seaside Hotel into the center of Tórshavn.

Hotel Hafnia in Tórshavn
If you want to stay right in the heart of Tórshavn, we recommend Hotel Hafnia. From some of the rooms and the restaurant, you have a great view over the small harbor.
The rooms are very modern and decorated in a wonderfully individual style. We especially love the artistic concept woven throughout the entire hotel.
At check-in you’re welcomed with a delicious welcome drink, and throughout the day you can enjoy complimentary coffee and tea.
Hotel Brandan in Tórshavn
On a hill just outside Tórshavn sits Hotel Brandan. It’s about a half-hour walk into the center, but in return you get an incredibly beautiful view over the entire city.
The rooms have a modern and elegant design. After a long day of hiking, you can relax in the sauna or the whirlpools.
The really cool part, though, is the wine hour. Every evening you get a complimentary glass of wine and can chat with fellow guests over a drink.
Petursborg Apartment in Tórshavn
If you want a vacation apartment in Tórshavn, the Petursborg Apartment is our absolute top pick. We stayed here and fell in love with the little place.
The apartment is in a charming Faroese house. The decor is a mix of modern, Scandinavian, and a little rustic — we found it really cozy and felt completely at home.
Our absolute highlight is the heated bathroom floor in the shower — perfect for warming up after a day out in the elements. The apartment is also centrally located, and owner Peter is incredibly welcoming.
On the Island of Vagár
Vagár is the third-largest island in the Faroe Islands. You’re super close to the airport and some of the most beautiful attractions, such as the Múlafossur waterfall and Mykines.
On Vagár you can stay in small villages or choose a spot right in the middle of nature. The island is perfect for exploring the western part of the Faroe Islands.

Múlafossur Cottages in Gásadalur
In the small village of Gásadalur you’ll find the utterly charming Múlafossur Cottages. They’re made of wood, have a traditional grass roof, and sit right in the middle of nature.
Inside, the walls of the little houses are completely wood as well, which makes them wonderfully warm and cozy. We also really love the modern, Scandinavian decor.
The location is perfect if you’re looking for peace and quiet and want to be at the Múlafossur waterfall before all the other tourists in the morning. The most popular attraction is just a few steps away.
The View Vacation Home in Bøur
The View vacation home has a truly special location in the village of Bøur: it’s incredibly peaceful and you have a breathtaking panorama of the ocean and the island of Mykines.
The little grass-roofed houses are the kind of place you can settle into for a good, long while. While you’re inside wrapped in a blanket, sheep and chickens wander past your window.
The houses are simple but decorated in a beautiful Scandinavian style with a lot of care. The many wooden elements make it truly cozy. Another big plus: the heated floor.
Cottages by the Sea Apartment in Sørvágur
The Cottages by the Sea Apartments are small, charming houses right on the harbor in Sørvágur. They’re simple but very modern in style — you’ll definitely feel comfortable here.
The location in Sørvágur is really great. By car you’re at the airport in just five minutes, and it’s only a 15-minute walk to the ferry to Mykines.
When you want to unwind, just settle in front of the large panoramic window and watch the activity in the harbor.

On the Island of Eysturoy
Eysturoy is the second-largest island in the Faroe Islands. There are fewer places to stay here, even though there are many small villages.
Staying on Eysturoy can be perfect if you’re looking for plenty of peace and quiet in nature and want to enjoy the views of the ocean.

The Gjaargardur Guesthouse is a small guesthouse in the beautiful village of Gjógv. You’ll find spacious single rooms, charming double rooms, and large family rooms.
The rooms are simply furnished, a little rustic, but somehow very nice and incredibly cozy. From every window you have a lovely view of the village or the surrounding nature.
This is our absolute value pick for where to stay in the Faroe Islands. Prices stay the same year-round, even in summer — you won’t pay more than 150 euros for a good double room.

In Klaksvík on the Island of Borðoy
Staying on the island of Borðoy is especially great as a base for the northeastern part of the Faroe Islands. Since the selection here is even more limited, we recommend the town of Klaksvík.
From there you’re very close to the ferry to Kolsoy, where two of our absolute highlights are located: the hike to the James Bond gravestone and the Seal Woman of Mikladalur.
