The best places to stay on Uluwatu’s west coast
The Room Padang Padang is one of our favorite beach hotels in Bali. Bright orange on the outside and light and simple inside. It sits directly on one of Bali’s most beautiful beaches. You can surf, snorkel, and swim.
The Rock’n Reef is one of the most amazing hotels in Bali. Built into the cliff on multiple levels, the lowest level features a private beach. Each bungalow level is completely private.
Where to Stay on the East Coast

The east coast is our alternative for Uluwatu if you are traveling with children and want a relaxed swim.
The east coast is quieter than the west coast – in terms of tourists and waves.
A reef off the coast flattens the waves. This means you can swim without constantly being tossed around by waves – perfect for a trip with kids! Two of our most beautiful family hotels in Bali are also located here.
The sandy beaches are miles long and really quiet compared to Uluwatu on the west coast. The area is not quite as well known as Uluwatu.
Nevertheless, there are a few restaurants. And if you want to go to Uluwatu from your accommodation, it’s about 50 minutes by car.
Pros of accommodation on the east coast
- Beaches are great for families
- Many hotels right on the beach
- Beaches are very easy to reach
Cons of accommodation on the east coast
- Longest way to Uluwatu and Uluwatu Temple (about 50 minutes drive)
- Many beaches are private
- Many large luxury resorts

For the east coast, we recommend the Sama Sama Villa. You can have your own villa with a private pool. The hotel in Uluwatu is about a 15-minute walk from the beach.
Where to Stay on the South Coast

The south coast of the Bukit Peninsula is perfect if you want peace, quiet, and empty beaches.
The south coast is the opposite of the west coast. It’s completely relaxed and there aren’t as many surfers as in Uluwatu. Here, you can almost have the beaches all to yourself.
Many hotels on the south coast offer wellness facilities and spacious villas for rent. On the other hand, you’ll find fewer restaurants and bars than on the west coast. But don’t worry, there are always a few nearby. Just be ready to drive around 10 minutes to reach them.
Uluwatu is between 10 and 40 minutes away by car.
