What Is a Riad?
Riads are traditional Moroccan houses. They’re located right in the heart of the medinas (old towns) of cities. The design is typically Moroccan and absolutely beautiful. They’re essentially the boutique hotels of Marrakech.
The defining feature of a riad is the inner courtyard. It stays pleasantly cool even in summer and, despite the hustle and bustle of the medinas, is usually very quiet. All rooms open onto the inner courtyard.
Riads are fairly small, with just a few rooms, and have a wonderfully intimate feel. But they fill up fast! So if you find one you love, you should book your riad in Marrakech quickly.
Why stay in a riad in Marrakech?
- You get to live like you’re in 1001 Nights.
- You stay in a truly Moroccan home and get a firsthand taste of the country’s history and culture.
- Riads are usually small properties. It’s quiet and the service is personal.
- Owners are often European or wealthy Moroccan locals. You’ll frequently get genuinely great insider tips.
- Riads are right in the medina, the perfect area to stay in Marrakech.
- In summer, riads in Marrakech stay comfortably cool, and in winter they hold the warmth well.
Note: On winter nights, rooms can get a bit chilly. When booking, definitely check whether the riad has heating if you tend to feel the cold. The same goes for air conditioning in summer. Not all riads have both.
Good to know: You’ll also find beautiful riads in Fès, and many of the accommodations in Essaouira are riad-style as well!
We’ve convinced you, right? Marrakech is one of the top 22 highlights in Morocco, and staying in a riad is simply part of the Moroccan experience.
Now let us show you the 15 most beautiful riads in Marrakech that we can wholeheartedly recommend.
Monriad
The Monriad is, for us, one of the most beautiful riads in Marrakech and our absolute top pick. This is where we stayed during our city trip to Marrakech.
The riad sits right in the heart of the medina, which is our favorite area to stay. You’re just a 5-minute walk from the popular Bahia Palace and only ten minutes from Djemaa El Fna — perfect!
The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We were given a map packed with great info about the city. And every morning you get a truly delicious breakfast.
Our highlight is the small, cozy seating area with a fireplace. When we were there in March, there was actually a fire going and we could enjoy complimentary mint tea and coffee — so cozy! For hot summer days, there’s a small pool.
The standard rooms are admittedly pretty small, but like the rest of the riad they’re beautifully decorated in a boho style. You’ll get more space in the superior rooms or suites.

Our tip: Right outside the entrance to the Monriad is the restaurant Dar L’hssira. After our cooking class, we had the best meal of our entire trip there. The traditional salad was absolutely incredible — make sure to reserve a table in advance.
Riad Alnadine
A real under-the-radar pick among the best riads in Marrakech and our readers’ favorite is the Riad Alnadine. A true oasis in the middle of the city’s hustle and bustle — you’ll feel completely at home here.
What we especially love is the minimalist, quintessentially Moroccan design — with a touch of modernity. The rooms and the entire riad are furnished with incredible attention to detail.
The owners are also wonderfully warm. You’ll stay in a very homey atmosphere and have your freshly prepared breakfast served every morning on the beautiful rooftop terrace.
The riad is centrally located in the medina, and you’re just a short walk from all the sights in Marrakech. There’s also a small pool here where you can cool off between sightseeing.

Riad Adika & Spa
Want a riad in Marrakech with a spa, in a quieter part of the medina, but still at a reasonable price? Take a look at the Riad Adika & Spa.
Our highlight is the gorgeous spa area with its own hammam — perfect after a long day of sightseeing. The pool is a little larger than in many other riads in Marrakech, though still not huge.
The rooms are bright, minimalist, and beautifully furnished — as is everything in this riad. There are also great family rooms, ideal if you’re visiting Marrakech with kids.
The Riad Adika is located in the Riad Laarous neighborhood, one of the oldest parts of the medina. It’s quieter here and you can even drive right up to the riad. And of course, a delicious, varied breakfast is included.

Riad Le Petit Joyau
Even though Marrakech’s riads are among the priciest places to stay in all of Morocco, you can still find a few more affordable options that are absolutely beautiful.
One of them is the Riad Le Petit Joyau — our pick for the best value for money among Marrakech riads. Here you’ll pay around 90 euros for a double room, sometimes even less. Seriously great!
In return, you stay in a bright and open riad. The décor is a lovely mix of traditional design and clean modern touches.
The location is top-notch — the riad sits right next to El Badi Palace, at the entrance to the medina. We also really love the breakfast on the rooftop terrace, with genuinely great coffee. What a way to start the day!

Dar Andamaure
One of the most popular riads in Marrakech is the Dar Andamaure. The heart and soul of this place are the French hosts Hervé and Marie and their team.
You’ll feel like you’re staying with friends. The atmosphere is wonderfully homey and everyone is incredibly warm, helpful, and full of great tips.
A second highlight is the beautiful rooftop terrace. This is where you’ll enjoy your Moroccan breakfast in the morning, relax on the loungers in the afternoon, and take in the sunset in the evening.
The six rooms are minimalist and Moroccan in design. The location is excellent — it’s an 8-minute walk to Djemaa El Fna. Note that a minimum stay of two nights is required.
Riad Helen
Into modern design and clean, beautiful interiors? That’s exactly what the wonderful Riad Helen delivers — a bright, stylish riad in the northern part of the medina.
What we really love here is the aesthetic. Riad Helen has an incredibly modern Moroccan feel, with traditional elements and lots of great pops of color.
Unlike more classic riads in Marrakech, even the standard rooms are genuinely large and spacious. The whole atmosphere is homey and the staff is super helpful.
The standout feature is the rooftop pool, where you can cool off after a long day in Marrakech. A double room with breakfast comes in at around 105 euros — really great value!
Dar Titrit
Want a riad in Marrakech with a rooftop pool and also a pool in the inner courtyard? Check out Dar Titrit — this riad has both.
The rooftop pool is definitely the standout. There’s even a small pool bar up there, which is truly rare in Marrakech. From up top you also get a fantastic panorama over the northern part of the medina.
We also really love the design of Dar Titrit. The décor blends clean, classic Moroccan style with modern elements beautifully.
All eight rooms have a very individual feel, each with its own name — Majorelle, Kaktus, Saffron, and more. There are also some lovely triple rooms.
Riad Rahal
Traveling with kids and looking for a great riad in Marrakech? Check out the Riad Rahal. It has some truly beautiful family rooms.
But beyond that, the riad is an absolute dream. The décor is less typically Moroccan and more modern boho-style — and we love it!
We also really love the varied breakfast served on the rooftop terrace. Some mornings it’s eggs, others fresh pancakes, but there are always Moroccan specialties and fresh juice.
The location in the northern medina is a real plus — it’s a bit quieter up there. A double room starts at 115 euros per night, and a family room from 200 euros.
Numa Marrakech
If you want to be right in the heart of the medina and stylish design matters to you, we’d point you to the Numa Marrakech. From here, Djemaa El Fna is less than a ten-minute walk away.
The interior of this Marrakech riad is incredibly stylish and elegant, like a truly beautiful boutique hotel. The rooms are minimalist, clean, and gorgeous.
On the rooftop there’s a small pool — the perfect place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing or a cool day trip from Marrakech.
We also really love the food here. Breakfast features delicious Moroccan specialties, and if you’re in the mood, you can enjoy a dinner by the fireplace.
Budget Riads in Marrakech
Traveling on a tight budget and looking for an affordable riad in Marrakech? No problem! Here are two more wallet-friendly picks.
Good to know: Outside of Marrakech — near the Dadès Gorge or the Todra Gorge, or by the coast in Essaouira or Taghazout — accommodations are generally cheaper than in Marrakech.
Riad Sesame
Budget riads in Marrakech are rare, but they do exist. Our top pick is the Riad Sesame, where we stayed ourselves — before heading on to the Atlas Mountains and our desert tour in Morocco — in the Erg Chegaga desert.
The overall package at this Marrakech riad won us over completely. We were welcomed by the lovely Moroccan owner with mint tea and homemade cookies.
The rooms are super spacious and the beds genuinely comfortable. But our highlight was the breakfast — one of the best on our entire road trip through Morocco. The selection wasn’t enormous, but everything was absolutely delicious!
We also loved the location. The riad sits in the northwestern part of the medina, a bit away from the action — about a 20-minute walk into the center. In return, you pay just around 80 euros per night for two.
Riad Safina
Here’s a second budget riad in Marrakech that we really love: the Riad Safina, a small riad with just five rooms.
And the best part: it has an absolutely prime location, almost right next to the Bahia Palace. That makes it a seriously under-the-radar find in Marrakech!
The rooms are truly cozy in Moroccan style, with a hint of boho flair. In the inner courtyard there’s a small pool where you can cool off nicely.
Breakfast is enjoyed on a beautiful rooftop terrace, with freshly baked bread, pancakes, fruit salad, and fresh-squeezed OJ. One more thing: since the riad is so small, make sure to book well in advance!
Luxury Riads in Marrakech
Want to go all out on your Marrakech city trip and really live the fairy tale of 1001 Nights? Then treat yourself to a luxury riad in Marrakech!
Riad Itrane
Marrakech definitely doesn’t lack for luxury riads. One of the most stunning is the Riad Itrane — our readers’ luxury favorite. Here you’ll truly live the dream of 1001 Nights!
That’s exactly what owners Charlotte and Patrice set out to create — a place where guests feel right at home.
The 17th-century riad, still in its authentic Moroccan style, was the perfect fit for that vision. We’re especially taken with the inner courtyard, which is lush with greenery and features a large, gorgeous pool.
The rooms are also traditionally designed and super stylishly furnished. The location near Djemaa El Fna is perfect. A minimum stay of two nights is required.

The rooms are large and stylishly furnished — Moroccan, with a touch of French elegance. We also really love the large pool in the inner courtyard and the delicious breakfast made with fresh Moroccan ingredients.
Riad Antara is centrally located in the medina, very close to the Bahia Palace. Honestly, the price is a bit steep, but if you’re after a truly beautiful boutique hotel experience in Marrakech, it’s absolutely worth it!

Riad Les Nuits de Marrakech
In the eastern part of the medina you’ll find yet another elegant and popular riad in Marrakech — the Riad Les Nuits de Marrakech. Super quiet, yet you’re just about five minutes from Djemaa El Fna — amazing!
What we really love about this riad is the individual design of the eight rooms. Each one is cozy and decorated in a distinctly Moroccan style.
The delicious breakfast — featuring plenty of fruit and French and Moroccan specialties — is served either on the large rooftop terrace or in the beautiful inner courtyard. You’ll also find a pool there to cool off in.
This beautiful Marrakech riad is a small, intimate oasis in the heart of the medina. A minimum stay of two nights is required, and you’ll want to book quickly — the riad is often fully booked.
