Staying Cheap in Paris: What You Need to Know

Hotels in Paris are, in most cases, anything but cheap.
With over 2 million people packed into barely 100 square kilometers, space is simply precious.

And of course, the operators of Parisian accommodations know exactly how much demand there is for their city and are happy to charge a little extra — simply because they can.

But so you don’t have to skip a trip to Paris or spend too much money, we’re sharing what we know:

What makes a good, affordable hotel in Paris for us?

We want to feel comfortable!
That’s our number-one priority when searching for hotels anywhere in the world. A clean room, a cozy bed, and ideally a breakfast option.

In Paris, we raise the bar a little and also want:

  • a little Parisian charm and
  • proximity to the sights or easy access to the Metro

How do you find a good, affordable hotel in Paris?

Finding a solid, cheap hotel in Paris typically requires hours of searching — there’s really no getting around it.

Good thing you have us! Not only have we done the searching for you, but we also have a few tips to help you stay in Paris on the cheap:

  • Take advantage of early-bird discounts! Booking six months in advance saves money.
  • Visit Paris in winter. Many hotels cost easily 100 euros less per night during that time.
  • In Paris, hotels outside the center aren’t all that much cheaper, and you’d still need a Metro ticket to get into the city. So pay attention to a convenient location.
  • Hostels are a great alternative for staying in Paris on a budget. And the City of Love actually has some cool, clean hostels to offer.

Affordable Hotels in Central Paris

The center of Paris stretches from the Jardins du Trocadéro in the west to the Place de la Bastille in the east, and from the Place Adrien-Oudin in the north to just before Montparnasse in the south.

This is the oldest part of Paris and also the neighborhood with the most Paris attractions you absolutely don’t want to miss.

Because of the prime location, hotels here are of course more expensive. Still, we’ve found some great, comparatively cheap hotels in central Paris that cost between 200 and 300 euros per night for two adults:

Hotel Clément

Hotel Clément is located on the south side of the Seine

Average 200 euros per night for 2 adults.

Hotel Clément is our top pick among cheap hotels in Paris!

You’ll stay in a historic building from the 1850s — no wonder the rooms come with a healthy dose of Parisian charm.

There’s a daily extensive breakfast buffet where you can eat in true French style: croissants, baguette, cheese, plenty of jam, and even more coffee.

And it’s not just the décor and the breakfast that feel authentically Parisian — so does the view. From the hotel rooms, you look out over the lively neighborhood of the 6th arrondissement.

For that price, the location simply can’t be beat. Hotel Clément sits right in the heart of Paris, close to the Île de la Cité. Notre-Dame and the Seine are just a stone’s throw away.

And if you want to explore Paris beyond walking distance, the Mabillon Metro station is right in front of the hotel.

Hotel Abbatial Saint Germain

Average 250 euros per night for 2 adults.

Hotel Abbatial sounds expensive and looks expensive. But it isn’t — heh.

You’ll find modern rooms in a classic Haussmann-style building, with views of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Saint-Michel. Essentially Parisian luxury at a budget price.

In addition to the stylish, minimalist rooms, Hotel Abbatial offers a fitness center, private parking, room service, and daily breakfast.

Here’s the kicker: you have breakfast under a glass dome. Yes, you read that right. Croissants and coffee with the Paris sky above you. Dreamy.

And just as dreamy is the proximity to the top Paris sights. Notre-Dame and the Seine are just a few steps away, and the Maubert-Mutualité Metro station right by the hotel gets you anywhere in no time.

The hotel takes its name from the famous Opéra Garnier, which is just a stone’s throw away. All the other Paris highlights are easy to reach from here too — on foot or by Metro from Opéra.

And even though the neighborhood around the hotel is very lively and energetic, inside you’ll have total peace and quiet.

With soothing green tones, minimalist design, and a few vintage accents, the hotel creates a genuinely relaxing atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to recharge after a long day of sightseeing.

Every morning you can fuel up at breakfast. No time for a leisurely sit-down? The express breakfast lets you grab coffee and pastries to go.

Staying in the oldest part of Paris is priceless? Think again. The Hôtel Victoria Châtelet proves otherwise.

Tucked right inside the Théâtre du Châtelet in the 1st arrondissement, it’s a real standout with serious historical character.

Expect a wild mix of French grandeur, modern kitsch, and Parisian simplicity. We’re not entirely sure how it works, but Hôtel Victoria Châtelet pulls it off.

And things are just as eclectic once you step outside. The Seine and Notre-Dame are only a few meters away, and the Louvre, the Centre Pompidou (closed until 2030), and the charming Marais neighborhood are all easily reachable on foot.
