Where is the best place to buy your Edge ticket?

It’s best to buy your New York Edge ticket online in advance. Either via the official Edge ticket store or via the third-party provider GetYourGuide.

Why? Because then you can experience the Edge much more stress-free and plan your sightseeing perfectly thanks to the timeslot you choose when purchasing. In addition, buying Edge tickets on the spot can lead to price mark-ups due to high demand.

You can get all the tickets available for the Edge New York City in the official ticket store. On GetYourGuide you can get the Standard Ticket, Flex and Express Tickets, tickets for the City Climb and a combination ticket. A table will follow shortly.

Unfortunately, the official ticket store does not offer refunds after cancelation. GetYourGuide, on the other hand, allows you to cancel up to 24 hours before the start with a full refund.

Glass Floor for Thrills

Der Glasboden-Bereich sorgt für Nervenkitzel
The glass floor area provides thrills

The glass floor is what makes the Edge observation deck so special. It is made of strong, toughened glass that is designed to withstand extreme loads. You can stand on it and feel like you’re floating in the air. From here, you can look 335 meters down onto the streets of New York.

But don’t worry. Not the whole platform is made of glass. Only a small part. And this small part is monitored by security so that not too many people stand on it at the same time. It’s really safe.

Fun fact: If you stand on the glass floor, the so-called “floating effect” happens. An optical illusion that makes you feel separated from the world above you and the floor below you.

The Edge Multimedia Exhibition

Die Multimedia-Ausstellung im The Edge ist super umfangreich
The multimedia exhibition at The Edge is super extensive

The multimedia exhibition at the Edge in New York is an interactive and immersive exhibition that gives you an even more intense perception of the city and its history.

The Edge Bar offers a selection of cocktails, wine, beer and soft drinks. You can also buy snacks such as sandwiches, wraps and sweet pastries.

A drink costs between 5 and 22 dollars and the snacks 5 to 12 dollars.

The opening hours of the bar are adapted to the opening hours of the observation deck.

You must reserve a table in advance for the Peak restaurant. You can do this easily via the official website. You can also find the menu there.

The EdgeWalk is not for the faint-hearted – we only watched it on the screen

Our Review: Is the Edge in NYC Worth it?

Für uns ist The Edge die aufregendste Aussichtsplattform New Yorks
For us, The Edge in NYC is totally worth it

We spontaneously went to the New York Edge at 9am. Tickets are still easy to get at the ticket machine at such an early hour.

And an early hour also means fewer people when sightseeing in New York – at least a little less.

The Edge tour starts with the multimedia exhibition, which takes you on an exciting journey through the history of Hudson Yards and the Edge observation deck. It’s really fascinating to find out all the background information before you go onto the platform.

Once we were smarter than before, we took the elevator up 336 meters into the New York sky and to the Edge observation deck in 60 seconds.

The entire platform consists of an indoor and an outdoor area. Inside, you get a 360-degree panoramic view of New York thanks to the glass walls.

The real highlight, however, is of course the terrace. It is triangular and its pointed outer edge is 20 meters away from the building. All around you, all you see is sky and what feels like endless space. The huge city suddenly looks tiny.

But don’t worry! The platform is surrounded by 2.7 meters of glass. This gives you a safe feeling without taking away the thrill.

And speaking of thrills, you’ll get them in the middle of the platform at the latest. The floor there is made of glass and you can look down 99 storeys. Insanely cool!

We also loved the unobstructed view of the Empire State Building. The view was so impressive that we suddenly weren’t sure whether we really wanted to go up there or whether the view from here was enough for us.

The Edge really is the most exciting viewing platform in New York and an absolute must if you want to experience the city from a completely new perspective.

From the moment we got our feet back on the ground, it was a unique experience that we definitely won’t forget in a hurry.

You can perfectly combine your visit to the Edge observation deck with a stroll through the surrounding area.

These sights are located near the Edge:

  • The Vessel: huge walk-in art installation with a spiral structure of stairs

  • High Line: one of the most beautiful parks in New York on a former railroad track right next to Hudson Yards
  • Chelsea Market: hip food market with restaurants, boutiques and craft shops
