How the New York Essentials Pass Works
The New York Essentials Pass from Go City is an affordable and straightforward option among the various city passes for New York. You pick three top highlights — simple as that.
The concept behind the Essentials Pass is simple. You choose 3 highlights from 13 New York attractions.
Here’s how the selection works: you pick 1 of 4 observation decks and 2 additional experiences from 9 attractions. Important: You can’t choose two observation decks. It’s always 1 deck + 2 other experiences.
On-site, you simply show your QR code in the app at the ticket counter. The pass is activated at the first attraction and is then valid for 30 days — so you don’t have to squeeze all three visits into a single day.
One thing you absolutely need to do: reserve your time slots! Even with this pass, advance booking is required for some attractions. You can do this easily through the Go City App, where you save your pass after purchase.
The pass is a great foundation for your New York trip, especially if you’re only there for a few days.

Our Review of the New York Essentials Pass
For us, the New York Essentials Pass is the perfect choice for a short trip — or for anyone who wants to experience their first visit to New York completely stress-free.
The Go City Essentials Pass is a scaled-back but more affordable alternative to the other pass options in New York.
It’s especially worth it if you’re only in the city for two or three days. You simply won’t have time to visit ten attractions. The Essentials Pass covers the must-sees without any stress.
For first-time visitors keeping an eye on their budget, the Essentials Pass is a seriously appealing choice — most of the included options are almost certainly already on your New York itinerary. Having the three most important tickets locked in for under $100 gives you real peace of mind when planning.
On top of that, Go City offers a savings guarantee. If individual tickets genuinely turn out to be cheaper, you can get the difference refunded.
The pass doesn’t have any real downsides, but there’s one thing to keep in mind:
Only one observation deck is included. If you absolutely want to visit both the Empire State Building and Top of the Rock, this pass isn’t the right fit. In that case, a New York Explorer Pass — where you can choose a pass for 4 or 5 attractions — might be a better option.
Not all 13 attractions on offer are true top-tier highlights. Mercer Labs and the Museum of Broadway are cool, but they don’t make our must-see list for New York. That said, even without those two, you still have plenty of choices to build a great selection of three standout experiences.
