With an eSIM in Mexico, getting online is totally stress-free

eSIMs are a real gamechanger for travel. No more fighting your way through a hundred different plans at the airport. Just buy an eSIM before your trip to Mexico, and after landing you can switch to your new plan and be online right away.

In Mexico, you’ll find eSIM plans where you choose a specific amount of GB upfront, and others that give you unlimited data for a set number of days.

Which one suits you best depends mainly on how you travel. We usually go with a fixed GB plan.

Our Recommendation: Saily as a Mexico eSIM

We recommend an eSIM from Saily for Mexico.

Saily is incredibly easy to install through the app (iOS I Android). Once you land in Mexico, it activates automatically.

Saily’s big advantage is that it runs on Telcel’s network — by far the best network coverage in Mexico. And the value for money is seriously hard to beat.

You can buy the eSIM up to 30 days before your trip. Once you’re on the ground, the app lets you track your usage and remaining time at any point.

You can choose between a specific number of GB or a plan with unlimited data for multiple days. We’ve put together a table below so you can compare the available plans at a glance.

If you use the internet normally — Google Maps and some social media here and there — 10 GB per person should be plenty for a Mexico road trip lasting two to three weeks. And if you run low, topping up through the app is super easy.

eSIMs for Mexico Compared

eSIM providers at a glance
There are many great providers for eSIM cards in Mexico

Saily isn’t the only eSIM provider for Mexico — there are plenty of others, and some are a better fit for certain types of trips.

Saily is the best Mexico eSIM for most travelers, especially if you’re doing a road trip. That comes down to its superior network coverage.

Airalo is worth considering for city trips in Mexico — coverage in urban areas is solid, and the eSIM tends to be a bit cheaper than Saily. An eSIM from Nomad is the one to go for if you want to combine your Mexico trip with the USA and prefer a single eSIM that works in both countries.

Our Personal Experience with a Mexico eSIM from Airalo

On our trip to Mexico, we used eSIMs from Airalo.

In the cities, they worked great. Outside of the cities — for example on Isla Holbox or on the drive from Mérida to Bacalar — we mostly had no signal at all during our Yucatán road trip.

That’s a real problem when you’re relying on Google Maps for road trips and day excursions.

In the area around Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and Cancún, there were no outages.

If you’re only traveling in that region or planning a city trip in Mexico, an Airalo eSIM is a solid alternative to Saily. For anything else, we’d always go with Saily as your Mexico eSIM.

Our Verdict on the Mexico eSIM

In most cases, Saily is the best eSIM for Mexico. You get the best network coverage, outstanding value for money, and a really user-friendly app.

We’ve tested Saily eSIMs at a number of destinations and have always been super happy with them.

For a two- to three-week Mexico road trip, we recommend a plan with 10 GB for 30 days.
