Our Hotel Tips for Lüneburg
Before we share our picks for Lüneburg Heath hotels, we’d like to introduce you to the city of Lüneburg as an alternative.
Lüneburg itself lies to the east of the heath. Most of the highlights in the Lüneburg Heath can be reached from Lüneburg in about 20 to 40 minutes by car.
If you’d rather not stay right in the middle of nature and prefer to stroll through a charming city in the evenings, Lüneburg is a great option too.

The Schmucke Witwe is a small hotel in the center of Bispingen. With just eight rooms, you can expect a stay in an incredibly family-friendly atmosphere.
Wondering where the name “Schmucke Witwe” comes from? We’ll tell you: a parsonage widow’s house once stood on this site. Although the hotel was newly built, it stayed true to the style of the old half-timbered house and preserved all the historic charm of the original building.
Every room at the Schmucke Witwe is modern and lovingly decorated with motifs from the Lüneburg Heath. You’ll also find a poem by Hermann Löns — a beloved nature enthusiast and heath poet — in every room.
Our Tip: The generous breakfast buffet at the Schmucke Witwe is especially popular and draws many guests from outside the hotel. It’s best to reserve in advance.
Where is the Schmucke Witwe located? And what can you do there?
The Schmucke Witwe is located in the municipality of Bispingen on the southeastern edge of the heath. We really can’t think of a better starting point.
From here you not only have great opportunities for hiking, cycling, and swimming, but there are also numerous fun parks and leisure activities nearby, such as the Snow Dome ski hall or the Center Parcs holiday park.
Landhaus Meinsbur
With twelve rooms, the boutique hotel Meinsbur is very intimate — but perfectly in keeping with the motto “small but mighty”! The team’s philosophy fits right in: as a guest, you should feel genuinely welcome and completely taken care of.
What we love most about Landhaus Meinsbur is the design. With its thatched roof and historic half-timbered style, the hotel looks completely rustic and traditional from the outside. The rooms and the rest of the interior, on the other hand, are incredibly modern and stylish.
A real standout is the hotel’s own Restaurant Buur. The food here is so good that the restaurant is very well known and popular not just among hotel guests, but throughout the whole area. The head chef at Buur focuses on a small but perfectly prepared selection of dishes.
Where is Landhaus Meinsbur located? And what can you do there?
You’ll find Landhaus Meinsbur in the small village of Bendestorf, in the far north of the heath, just about 30 kilometers from Hamburg. So if you’re also planning to explore the most beautiful things to see in Hamburg on a day trip, this place makes a great base.
Nearby, you can take day trips to places like the Bendestorf Film Museum, the Klecker Forest, or the Seeve River. As an official health resort, the area is said to enjoy a particularly pleasant climate.

Camp Reinsehlen
If the name Camp Reinsehlen makes you think of a camping vacation, think again. This is actually a 4-star hotel camp with more than 90 modern rooms.
But don’t worry — you won’t find the typical mass-tourism vibe here. The camp feels much more like a small, secluded, almost spiritual retreat in the middle of nature. Every room has its own terrace, and you can take in the breathtaking scenery the moment you wake up.

Camp Reinsehlen is somewhat off the beaten path, but you can reach Schneverdingen in just five minutes by car or 20 minutes by bike. Schneverdingen is one of the larger towns and sits on the western edge of the heath.
For us, it’s simply a perfect mix — seclusion in nature combined with small-town charm. We’d also highly recommend taking a stroll through downtown Schneverdingen.
Hotel Hof Barrl
Hof Barrl has a history spanning over 400 years — from a traditional farm to a brewery and finally to a beautifully renovated country hotel. One thing, however, has never changed: the hotel has been run by the Wachtmann family for several generations.
The hotel sits directly on the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park. You’re surrounded on all sides by the typical heath landscape, with blooming juniper shrubs and grazing Heidschnucken sheep. Every now and then you’ll hear the neigh of horses from the hotel’s own stables. It really doesn’t get much more natural or rural than this.
At the hotel restaurant, you can enjoy a variety of regional dishes, including game specialties — plus delicious seasonal offerings depending on the time of year.
Where is Hof Barrl located? And what can you do there?
Hof Barrl is still part of the town of Schneverdingen, though it sits a little outside the town center. By bike or car, you can reach the town center in just a few minutes and stroll through narrow lanes lined with typical half-timbered houses.

Hotel Hof Tütsberg
Hotel Hof Tütsberg offers plenty of peace and seclusion, sitting right in the middle of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park. The area is perfect for a horseback ride together or a leisurely hike.
The rooms are spread across three typical thatched-roof houses and decorated in a rustic, country style. For couples especially, there’s the Cedar Room and the Wedding Room — both designed with romance in mind and featuring a beautiful cedar wood bathtub.
For a few relaxed hours together, there’s also a small wellness area with a Finnish sauna and a relaxation room.
Where is Hotel Hof Tütsberg located? And what can you do there?
Around the Tütsberg estate, there’s really nothing for a long stretch except pastures, hiking trails, and the occasional Heidschnucke sheep. If you love quiet idylls, this is exactly the place for you!
The nearest town is Bispingen, about ten minutes by car. As we mentioned under number 1, there’s not only plenty of shopping here, but also some great leisure activities.
Romantikhotel Köllner Landhaus
The designation as a romantic hotel is truly fitting here. You’ll be sleeping in a beautiful half-timbered house dating back to 1589. On top of that, the property offers a large courtyard with a terrace and pond — especially lovely in summer.
The interior stands in contrast to the exterior. Inside, you’ll find a highly modern design. In total, there are six individually decorated rooms with stunning views of the Aller river landscape.

Where is Romantikhotel Köllner Landhaus located? And what can you do there?
Köllner Landhaus is located just outside the Celle city center, right next to the Aller River. To get into the city center, you can simply take the bus, which departs just a few meters from the hotel. The ride takes about 20 minutes.
Note: Celle is one of the larger cities in the region, but it’s also about 40 minutes from the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park. If you prefer to stay in the city and take day trips into the heath, this is ideal. If you want accommodation directly in the Lüneburg Heath, we’d recommend a different option.

Hotel Villa Schneverdingen
The 3-star Hotel Villa Schneverdingen has a seriously romantic feel thanks to its historic architecture. The hotel is already 125 years old and even a listed landmark, yet it was fully renovated just a few years ago. The interior was decorated in an eclectic, colorful style, with each room having its own color theme.
This one is also quite different from the hotels we’ve described so far — it’s located right in the heart of Schneverdingen. If you want a little buzz around you in the evenings, this is your spot.
But nature isn’t far from the villa either. The Heidegarten and the Schneverdinger Höpen are just a short walk away.

Note: Bad Bevensen is located about 40 minutes east of the official Lüneburg Heath Nature Park. However, you’re still surrounded by the typical heath landscape here. If you’d prefer to stay directly within the nature park, check out the following suggestions.
Gut Bardenhagen
If wellness is your priority, Gut Bardenhagen is definitely the right address — everything here revolves around fitness and health.
The wellness area is equipped with a steam bath, a Finnish sauna, and an infrared heat cabin. There’s also a swimming pool with a counter-current system and a large fitness room. On request, you can book massages, fitness classes, or even a personal trainer.
Gut Bardenhagen has a few more surprises up its sleeve, too. It was once a trotter stud farm, where over 100 trotting horses were bred and trained.
And then there’s the hotel restaurant — a truly unique highlight. Here you dine surrounded by Ferraris and other sports cars in an extraordinary atmosphere. A particularly special experience for car enthusiasts.
Where is Gut Bardenhagen located? And what can you do there?
Gut Bardenhagen is located slightly east of the Lüneburg Heath, just 15 minutes south of the city of Lüneburg. There isn’t much in the immediate vicinity of the estate, but you can fully enjoy the nature and the heath landscape right on your doorstep.
Pension Fortuna
Another place to stay in Bad Bevensen that we’d highly recommend is Pension Fortuna — also known as a salt hotel. Why?
The hotel offers a genuinely special wellness experience. One highlight is its very own salt grotto, which guests can visit free of charge. Not only does the salt grotto look really cool, but it’s also said to offer a range of health benefits.
On top of that, Pension Fortuna offers massages and several cure programs, including detox and breathing therapies. Longer stays are therefore quite common here.
Since Pension Fortuna was renovated just a few years ago, you’ll find modern rooms with colorful accents throughout.

Perfectly in keeping with its salt hotel identity, Bad Bevensen is also home to the Jod Sole Therme, which we already mentioned under number 8. You can even combine a visit there with a stroll through the spa park — all on foot.
If you still can’t get enough, the German Salt Museum in Lüneburg is also easily reachable within 20 minutes.
Haus Roseneck
Like our number 8, Haus Roseneck is a typical small wellness hotel in the spa town of Bad Bevensen.
The hotel itself has a Finnish sauna, an infrared cabin, and a fitness room. Massages and various beauty treatments are also available on request.
A major bonus: guests at Roseneck receive free admission to the Jod Sole Therme. In addition to the standard saunas and pools, there’s also a so-called salt world featuring its own salt grotto, salt sauna, and other therapeutic treatments centered around the white gold.
Back at Roseneck, you’ll come home to a very spacious apartment. These are furnished in a wonderfully cozy style — you’ll feel completely at home.

The Stimbekhof is located in the heart of the Lüneburg Heath — and that’s only fitting, because a deep connection with the surrounding nature is very close to the farm owners’ hearts.
There’s no classic restaurant at the hotel, but you certainly won’t go hungry. Whether it’s an extended breakfast, a cup of coffee from the local heath roaster, freshly baked waffles and bread, or homemade lemonade — everything at the Stimbekhof is made in-house using regional and seasonal ingredients.

The Stimbekhof is truly in the heart of the Lüneburg Heath, making it especially well-suited for hiking and cycling enthusiasts.
The nearest larger towns — Undeloh, Bispingen, and Schneverdingen — are only a few kilometers away and easily reachable by bike or car.
Schäferhof
The Schäferhof is what’s known as a “Naturotel” — a regionally typical, nature-close property with fewer than 120 beds and nature-oriented furnishings. Often — as is the case with the Schäferhof — these are half-timbered buildings.
Like several other hotels on our list, the Schäferhof is also located in Schneverdingen. The best way to get around is by bike. The cycling paths lead you both directly into the heath and into the town center. Not a cycling fan? You can even borrow an electric car from the hotel.
With a terrace, a conservatory, a café, and the Schäferei restaurant, you have everything you need right here. At the Schäferei, only seasonal and especially fresh ingredients make it into the pot.
Our Tip: Be sure to try the Heidjer Knipp, which is prepared with Heidschnucke lamb instead of pork.

The most important thing first: Pension Höpen Idyll has a lovely heated indoor pool. There’s also a sauna and massage loungers.

Heidepark Abenteuerhotel
The Heidepark Abenteuerhotel stands out clearly from the rest because it’s actually an amusement park. Adrenaline-fueled roller coaster rides, a spin on the carousel, or a little boat trip — kids’ dreams definitely come true here.
All rooms are themed around popular children’s motifs. There’s a jungle room, a Ghostbusters room, and one done up in pirate style, to name a few. The themes continue throughout the entire resort.
A day at the adventure park naturally works up an appetite. That’s why there’s also a wide selection of restaurants for big and small appetites alike.
Where is the Heidepark Abenteuerhotel located? And what can you do there?
The adventure hotel is located on the southern edge of the Lüneburg Heath. The nearest towns are Schneverdingen and Bispingen, both reachable by car in just a few minutes. The heath is right outside the amusement park, so you definitely shouldn’t miss a day out in the beautiful nature.
Hof und Gut Jesteburg
At Hof und Gut Jesteburg, you and your kids can enjoy a real farm vacation. Across the estate’s 85 hectares, little ones can run wild and experience farm life firsthand.
The property is also home to a variety of animals, including cows and horses. And speaking of horses: a real highlight on the farm is riding lessons for children — from pony rides for the youngest guests to courses for more advanced riders.

Hof und Gut Jesteburg is located — who would have guessed — in Jesteburg, about ten kilometers north of the Lüneburg Heath. The village has a few shops and cafés to browse and stroll through.
There are also great hiking trails around the farm. For families with children, we especially recommend the so-called Fairy Tale Hiking Trail.

If the name “Schloss Bothmer” conjures up images of a somewhat stuffy atmosphere, think again. This family-run hotel has fewer than ten rooms, and the emphasis here is on warmth and hospitality.
Another special feature at Schloss Bothmer is the equestrian facility. You’re even welcome to bring your own horse (or other pets). Children can go pony riding even without their own horse. For adults, there’s a wide range of options for revitalizing body and mind, such as treatments with a naturopathic practitioner.
Our Tip: If you’re looking for a little souvenir from your vacation in the Lüneburg Heath, be sure to stop by the Hofmanufaktur. There you’ll find all kinds of delicious homemade jams, jellies, and syrups. Yum!

Landhaus HeideGlück is located on the western edge of the heath in the small village of Wesseloh, with only about 500 residents. A local village store lets you stock up on fresh rolls and other goodies in the morning.
The nearest larger town is Schneverdingen, just 13 kilometers away. Wesseloh is therefore perfect if you prefer things a little quieter while still having a great base for day trips into the surrounding area.
The vacation apartment is unfortunately not available for rental at this time. We’ll let you know when it can be booked again.
Heideträume Apartments
Heideträume Apartments is a collection of five vacation apartments of varying sizes. The smallest apartment, “Pedalritter,” is designed for one to two people. There’s plenty of room to scale up, as groups can book several apartments as a package, accommodating up to 16 people.
All the apartments were recently renovated and are very modern in design. From the coffee maker to the e-bike charging station, everything is provided. There’s also a lovely terrace that invites you to soak up the sun on warm days.
A nice extra: you can use the in-house yoga room at any time, free of charge.
Where are Heideträume Apartments located? And what can you do there?
You’ll find Heideträume Apartments in Undeloh. This small community of about 1,000 residents is located right in the center of the heath. From carriage rides to hikes and bike tours, there are plenty of activities here.
The village center of Undeloh is also worth a visit. You can stroll leisurely between the small houses and pop into one of the cafés or restaurants.
Ferienwohnung Mundi
Ferienwohnung Mundi consists of three vacation apartments, each accommodating two to six people — making them perfect for a family vacation.
The apartments are especially ideal for those who want to live sustainably even on vacation. Inside, you use only solar power generated on-site. And the building even has its own charging station for your electric car.
