There are technically also regular bus connections toward Watford, but these involve multiple transfers, a longer travel time, and many stops. They’re not a real alternative. Anyone who wants to avoid unnecessary hassle is much better off with the organized bus.

By Train to the Harry Potter Studios
Another option is to travel by train. There are combo tickets with studio admission and train travel available for this too. This option is a bit more flexible, but usually more expensive — and you’ll still need an additional shuttle bus from the station to the studios.

If you prefer to travel by train independently, take the train from London to Watford Junction. From there, an official shuttle bus gets you to the Harry Potter Studios in about 15 minutes. Totally doable, but it does require more planning than the bus combo ticket.

If you’re already traveling around Great Britain by car, you can drive to the studios yourself. They’re located in Leavesden, about 45 to 60 minutes northwest of London, and there’s a free parking lot on site.
Keep in mind that driving in and around London can be slow and stressful, and city parking is expensive. For travelers already on a road trip, this works well — but for typical London visitors it’s more hassle than it’s worth.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is a journey through the Harry Potter films. You move step by step through original film sets and backdrops, experiencing many iconic locations up close.
Arriving & Introduction
Even before you’re fully inside, it feels like you’re slowly stepping into another world. Outside stand oversized wizard chess pieces and a path lined with glowing wands.
In the entrance hall, you’re greeted by the enormous Gringotts dragon hanging from the ceiling, with characters looking out at you from every wall. The excitement is absolutely bubbling over!
You start the Studio Tour together with other visitors as a group. First, you’re welcomed by a video from Fred and George Weasley, then you move into a small screening room. Note: photography is strictly forbidden here.
A short film plays until the screen rises — and suddenly you find yourself standing in front of the doors to the Great Hall.
You enter the hall just like the Hogwarts students in the films. For many fans, this is one of the most emotional moments of the entire tour.
The Great Hall
In the Great Hall, you can move around freely and take in the set at your own pace. At Christmastime it’s decorated exactly like in the films, but honestly, it’s breathtaking at any time of year.
This is where the actual tour begins — and where the group disperses so you can continue at your own pace.
Film Sets, Rooms & Props
Throughout the rest of the tour, you’ll see all kinds of original sets and exhibits, including:
- Dumbledore’s office
- the Gryffindor common room and dormitories
- the Burrow (the Weasley family home)
- various classrooms such as Defense Against the Dark Arts
- countless costumes, props, wigs, and models
Dotted throughout are interactive elements and photo opportunities — like a broomstick flight in front of a green screen where you virtually soar over the Quidditch field.
We also loved the buttons scattered around the sets that visitors can press to make things move.
The Forbidden Forest & Platform 9¾
A real standout — and a little bit creepy — is the Forbidden Forest with Buckbeak and Aragog. And then of course there’s Platform 9¾ with the Hogwarts Express.
You can walk through the train (we waited about ten minutes in line), take photos, and take a short break on the platform benches. There’s also a small Hogwarts Express shop here.
Backlot Café & Outdoor Area
After the Hogwarts Express, you head through the Backlot Café into the outdoor area. There you’ll find, among other things:
- the Knight Bus
- Privet Drive including the walk-through Dursley house
- the iconic Hogwarts Bridge
- the Hogwarts Greenhouse
On our very first visit to the Harry Potter Studios, the destroyed Potter house from Godric’s Hollow was also outside. Unfortunately, that’s no longer there. Such a shame.
Creatures & Special Effects
Back inside the studios, it’s all about magical creatures and special effects: Inferi, Dementors, dragons, Lupin as a werewolf, and numerous animatronics are on display — and you can learn exactly how they were brought to life.
Gringotts & Diagon Alley
After the creatures section, one of the last big highlights of the tour awaits: Gringotts Bank. You walk through the bank surrounded by goblins, see Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault, the Sword of Gryffindor, and experience a surprisingly realistic special effect involving the Gringotts dragon.
Right after that comes the absolute fan favorite: Diagon Alley. You can stroll through the original sets and browse shops like Ollivanders and Flourish & Blotts. During Christmastime, Diagon Alley is blanketed in snow; otherwise it appears in its classic look.
Hogwarts
The Studio Tour wraps up with the Hogwarts castle: a massive scale model in a dimly lit room.
This model was used for aerial and exterior shots throughout the films and shows Hogwarts in incredible detail. You walk all the way around it and can view it from every angle while the film score plays in the background. Seriously atmospheric.

Browse the Harry Potter Studios London shop online before you go. That way, you can decide in advance what you want to buy and won’t waste precious time on-site browsing the shelves. - Bring snacks & drinks
You’re allowed to bring your own snacks and drinks into the studios — a huge advantage, since the cafés are often very crowded and not exactly cheap. A perfect break spot? The benches by the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9¾. - Butterbeer — yes, but strategically
Butterbeer is obviously part of the experience. But if you’d rather skip the long lines, grab a bottled Butterbeer from the shop and enjoy it on the bus back to London. It’s a perfect way to wrap up the day. - Keep your jacket with you in the cold
There are free coat check areas on site. That said, we recommend keeping your jacket with you during the colder months — a large portion of the tour is outdoors, and you’ll definitely feel it without one. - Save shopping for the end
