In a nutshell
- With the Lisboa Card, you can save time and money on your city trip to Lisbon, as it works like a ticket for several attractions.
- In this article, we explain clearly and concisely when the Lisboa Card is worthwhile, how much it costs and what services are included.
- Finally, we present the alternatives to the Lisboa Card: the Lisbon Digital Pass and The Belém Bundle, which in our opinion are not worthwhile.
What is the Lisboa Card?
The Lisboa Card is a ticket for several attractions in Lisbon.
You pay once and have access to various sights, public transport and activities in Lisbon. You also receive discounts for some attractions and skip the queue.
You buy the Lisboa Card for a specific period – for one, two or three days.
Lisboa Card prices
- 24 hours: 27 euros (18 euros for children)
- 48 hours: 44 euros (€24.50 for children)
- 72 hours: 54 euros (30 € for children)
Is the Lisboa Card worth it?
Yes, in our opinion, the 24h and 48h Lisboa Card are worthwhile for sightseeing in Lisbon. We’ll explain why now.
24h Lisboa Card
The Lisboa Card for 24 hours is definitely worth it. This calculation example shows you why.
Attractions | Prices |
---|---|
Torre de Belém | 8 euros |
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos | 12 euros |
Trip to Belém | 3 euros |
Castelo de São Jorge | 15 euros |
Total price | 38 euros |
Lisboa Card 24h | 27 euros |
As all the highlights from the table are included in the Lisboa Card, you save 11 euros.
48h Lisboa Card
The 48h Lisboa Card is worthwhile if you want to travel on the famous streetcar line 28E and the Elevador Santa Justa in addition to the program above.
Both highlights are part of Lisbon’s public transport system and are included in the Lisboa Card.
Attractions | Prices |
---|---|
Torre de Belém | 8 euros |
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos | 12 euros |
Trip to Belém | 3 euros |
Castelo de São Jorge | 15 euros |
Ride on Tram 28E | 3,10 euros |
Elevador de Santa Justa | 6 euros |
Total price | 47,10 euros |
Lisboa Card 48 hours | 44 euros |
72h Lisboa Card
The Lisboa Card for 72 hours is not really worthwhile, as apart from the highlights above, no more top sights are included.
According to the calculation example, the Lisboa Card 72h is more expensive at 54 euros than if you do the program without a city pass (47.10 euros).
Note, however, that the Lisboa Card includes public transport – you can even travel as far as Sintra with it. So even if it’s not really worth it in terms of price, sightseeing is much more convenient.
For whom is the Lisboa Card not worthwhile?
If you belong to one of these groups, we do not recommend buying the Lisboa Card:
- You are a student or senior (aged 65 and over). The Lisboa Card is not worthwhile as you already receive many discounts.
What is included in the Lisboa Card?
In addition to the highlights we have already mentioned above, other attractions are also included. If you are interested in any of these, be sure to get the Lisboa Card.
Also note that you can skip the queue at many attractions with the Lisboa Card.
Here is a brief overview of what is included in the Lisboa Card:
- Castelo de São Jorge
- Public transport in Lisbon (metro, Tram 28E, trains to Sintra & Cascais etc.)
- Torre de Belém
- Mosteiro dos Jerónimos
- Pilar7 Bridge Experience
- Admission to museums (e.g. Fado Museum, Museo del Tesoro Real)
- Discount on tours in Lisbon (e. g. Hop-on/Hop-off Lisbon, Boat trip on the Tejo)
When you buy the Lisboa Card, you will also receive a guide containing all the information about the Lisboa Card, including all the sights. Here you can take a closer look at all the attractions included.
Where to buy the Lisboa Card?
You can buy the Lisboa Card in advance online or on site. If you buy it online, you will receive a voucher that you have to exchange for the correct magnetic card on site.
We recommend that you buy the card online in advance. This is because there are two queues at the pick-up stations on site. One for people who have already bought it online (the line is usually much shorter) and one queue for people who buy it on site.
There is no digital version of the Lisboa Card.
You can pick up and buy the card at these stations:
- Tourist information at the airport
- Ask me Lisboa Praça do Comércio (to Google Maps)
- Ask me Lisboa Centro Tejo (to Google Maps)
- Ask me Lisboa Foz Palace (to Google Maps)
When does the Lisboa Card become valid?
The card only becomes valid when you use it for the first time, for example when you take the metro from Lisbon airport into the city or at the first attraction. You have to enter the date and time yourself.
Is there a Lisboa Card for families?
No, unfortunately not. But there is a Lisboa Card for children. It is valid for children and young people between the ages of 4 and 15. Younger children usually don’t need a ticket for sightseeing and public transport anyway.
Alternatives to the Lisboa Card
There are two other city passes in Lisbon:
- Lisbon Digital Pass
- The Belém Bundle
In our opinion, however, they are not worthwhile.
The Lisbon Digital Pass
The Lisbon Digital Pass includes these highlights:
- Torre de Belém (8 euros)
- Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (12 euros)
- 24h or 48h Hop-on-Hop-off ticket (24 or 28 euros)
- Audio guide for a tour of Lisbon
- 10% discount on other attractions
You buy the Citypass at a fixed price and can use it to visit the included highlights. When booking, you specify when you want to visit which sights. You will receive it digitally.
Prices of the Lisbon Digital Pass
- 47.50 euros (if you buy the 24h hop-on hop-off bus ticket)
- 63.50 euros (if you buy the 48h hop-on/hop-off bus ticket)
It is significantly cheaper if you buy the tickets for the attractions individually.
The Belém Bundle
The Belém Bundle includes these highlights:
- Torre de Belém (8 euros)
- Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (12 euros)
- Audio guide for a tour of Lisbon
- 10% discount on other attractions
It costs 24 euros. You will receive it digitally. In our opinion, it is more worthwhile to buy the Lisboa Card for 24 hours (27 euros).
