Lido: The Island of Beach Hotels in Venice

If you want a beach hotel for your trip to Venice, you need to head to the island of Lido di Venezia — this is where all of Venice’s beaches are.
Unlike the main island, Lido has a completely normal infrastructure — streets, cars, bike paths, the works.
The beach here stretches 11 kilometers, with beach clubs lined up one after another, plus free public beach sections if you’d rather not pay.
From Venice’s historic center, you can reach Lido by vaporetto in just 15 minutes. There’s also a direct transfer from the airport to the island — which makes Lido a particularly smart choice if you’re visiting Venice with kids.
Note: “Lido” simply means “beach” in Italian, and several places in Italy share the name. When searching on Booking.com, make sure you’re looking for Lido di Venezia specifically.
Hotel Petit Palais
If you’ve already ticked off the top highlights of Venice and now just want a few days of proper beach time, the Petit Palais is our top pick among our hotel recommendations for Venice. Here’s why.
It sits a little away from the crowds — about a ten-minute bus ride from the ferry station. So if you don’t need to pop into the old town every single day, it’s perfect.
And it’s a true beach hotel: we mean right on the beach. The rooms have a beautiful, bright design, and most of them come with sea views.
Best of all, the hotel has its own private beach with small, private cabanas you can reserve at the front desk. It’s not cheap, but you can also book them for half a day if you don’t need them all day long.
Alternatively, one of the neighboring beach clubs or the public beach — just a few minutes’ walk away — works just as well.
Villa Contarini
Among the Venice beach hotels on Lido, Villa Contarini offers the best value for money — it’s one of our picks for budget-friendly accommodation in Venice.
It’s not right on the beach, but it’s only a 5-minute walk. The same goes for the ferry station — so the Villa is also a great choice if you want to explore the old quarter every now and then.
What was once a typical Venetian manor house is today a lovely bed & breakfast with a garden.
The owner, Sven, is from Belgium and is an art historian who’s always happy to share insider tips about Venice with guests. A genuinely personal touch you don’t often find.
Sea Tower
While the other hotels on Lido are fairly standard beach hotels, the Sea Tower is something genuinely modern and unique.
You can tell just from the outside that it’s special: a narrow tower with six floors, right by the sea.
That might not sound like much at first — but here’s the standout feature: you ride the elevator directly into your room.
Each floor has only one room, and you get your own personal key for the elevator, so the doors open only for you. Pretty cool, right?
The rooms are stylishly furnished, and when you open the window, you can hear the sound of the ocean right outside.
Ausonia Hungaria
The Ausonia Hungaria is a luxury wellness hotel and the best choice among the handful of 5-star hotels on Lido. You’ll be staying between the ferry station and the beach — a really convenient spot.
The hotel has a pool, a spa area, and a private beach located five minutes away.
For a luxury property, the prices are surprisingly reasonable — at the Hotel Excelsior, also five stars, a night costs considerably more.
Many services — like the wellness area or breakfast — aren’t included in the base rate. But that actually gives you the flexibility to pick and choose what you want.
If you don’t need a massage during your beach vacation, you can stay here in real luxury for a relatively good price.
And if 35 euros a day for hotel breakfast feels steep, there are several cafés nearby where you can start your morning for much less.
Hotel Villa Pannonia
Hotel Pannonia is the only eco-certified hotel on Lido. It’s not right on the beach, but the sand is just a few minutes’ walk away.
Sustainability is taken seriously here: energy-saving lighting, an organic breakfast made with regional ingredients, and eco-friendly cleaning products throughout.
Room rates are a touch higher as a result — but if the environment matters to you, this is absolutely the right place to stay.
The décor is stylish and modern, while the building itself is a historic villa where noble families from Eastern Europe once vacationed.
The hotel hosts ongoing art exhibitions, and in keeping with its eco-friendly ethos, you can also rent bicycles here. Honestly, a bike is the best way to explore Lido anyway!
