Who are you?

Hi everyone, we’re Doro, Daniel, and Elli Neugart, and since 2018 we’ve been passionate, independent hoteliers running our Hotel Garni***: Goldene Traube – by Neugart.

The two of us didn’t choose the hotel life until our second attempt. Sometimes good things take time.

For us, it’s no longer just a job — it’s a wonderful hobby that also pays the bills!

Where is Hotel Goldene Traube located?

You’ll find our family-run Hotel Garni *** in Traben-Trarbach on the Moselle River — more specifically, in the historic old quarter of Trarbach.

Traben-Trarbach sits between Germany’s oldest city — Trier — and Koblenz, in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Surrounded by vineyards on all sides, it’s a seriously lovely spot to base yourself for a Moselle vacation.

What makes Hotel Goldene Traube special?

We keep things relaxed — and the hotel reflects that completely. What mattered most to us was nailing the two core elements of a Hotel Garni: a great night’s sleep and a great breakfast.

As our guest, you’ll sink into a high-quality box spring bed and wake up to a really good cup of coffee. Everything else follows suit. It’s the perfect launchpad for a full day of exploring.

Our building also has a great story behind it. The Goldene Traube was converted from a coachman’s tavern into a hotel back in 1878 — and it’s been welcoming guests ever since.

A little tip from us: One special spot in our hotel is our rooftop terrace on the 5th floor, with views over the rooftops and the vineyards of Trarbach. You’ll be up close to the city’s landmark, the Grevenburg castle.

Rooms and Amenities

How many rooms does Hotel Goldene Traube have?

Our property has a total of 30 double rooms in various categories, spread across three buildings that are partially connected to one another.

Coming soon is our new concept, the Boardinghouse – by Neugart. Attached to the hotel, we’ll be adding six more double rooms.

The idea is to give families, friends, and business partners an extra gathering place — a common room with a kitchen, dining area, and lounge on the ground floor. Boardinghouse guests can prepare their own meals while still taking advantage of everything the hotel offers.

What do the rooms look like, and what categories are available?

We keep things simple, minimalist, and contemporary. The double rooms come in three categories — Comfort, Superior, and Suite.

The main difference is room size. The interior style is consistent throughout.

The real standout? Our high-quality box spring beds from Franconian bedding manufacturer FBF. Each floor has its own signature accent color, which gives the place a really nice feel.

All rooms were fully renovated in 2018.

We also have an ADA-accessible room, so guests with mobility needs can stay with us and explore the Moselle region too.

Are children welcome?

Absolutely! Children are more than welcome here. We have a young daughter ourselves who often fills the hotel with life — she’s always happy to have playmates around.

Some rooms come equipped with a high-quality sofa bed, so the kids can sleep comfortably too.

Our tip for families: Traben-Trarbach has a great adventure ropes course. An absolute must for every child.

Are pets welcome too?

Guests are more than welcome to bring their pets along. We have several rooms with vinyl flooring — in those rooms, it’s no problem at all.

Take a leisurely stroll along the Moselle with your dog, or head out on one of the excellent hiking trails around Traben-Trarbach.

What’s there to eat?

Since we’re a Hotel Garni, we offer a wonderful vitality breakfast buffet — everything you need for a great start to the day.

Our coffee machine is self-service, with all kinds of coffee specialties and hot cocoa to choose from.

We even make the jam at the buffet ourselves.

Of course, we’re happy to cater to dietary needs and intolerances — just let us know in advance.

Food and Drink in the Area

Which restaurants and cafés near the hotel do you recommend?

Right in our neighborhood, you’ll find plenty of great restaurants, seasonal wine taverns, cafés, and bars.

Restaurants

Our favorite spot around the corner is Die Graifen. You can enjoy everything from simple, hearty fare to refined dishes in a really relaxed atmosphere — with a view of the Moselle and an enchanting garden that’s seriously hard to beat.

Another solid option is the Alte Zunftscheune, which feels like a living museum where you can tuck into classic, homestyle cooking.

Cafés

Right on the Moselle in Traben, you’ll find the artisan ice cream shop Pâtisserie & Café von Michael Blume. It’s home to the best homemade ice cream in Traben-Trarbach — all made without artificial colors or preservatives.

Bars

To wrap up your evening, you can either relax at our own Trust Bar and rooftop terrace or stop by our friend Mathieu’s place.

The cocktail bar Chez Mathieu is just a stone’s throw from the hotel and features its very own house-made gin. The Trarbach Gin tastes of local herbs and spices with aromas of the vineyards and an essence of finest Mosel Riesling — with a hint of citrus.

Which nearby places do you recommend?

We’re happy to help you plan here too. There are so many beautiful spots along the Moselle just waiting to be discovered.

The Moselle Loop — In our opinion, the most stunning vantage point on the Moselle is at Bremmer Calmont, with breathtaking views of the river and its vineyards.

Here you can truly understand what steep-slope viticulture means — this is the steepest vineyard in Europe. And if you want to experience it firsthand, there’s a via ferrata where you can scramble up narrow paths with cables and ladders all the way to the summit cross.

Along the Moselle you’ll also find many castles, and the most famous is probably Burg Eltz — looking as if it were conjured straight out of a Harry Potter film onto the riverbank.

And of course, we recommend every spot where there’s wine. The Moselle has a wealth of winemakers with a wide range of styles.

During the Christmas season, Traben-Trarbach hosts Germany’s most beautiful underground Mosel Wine Night Market — right on our doorstep!

It’s truly something special and a real highlight of the festive season. We’ve put together a dedicated package just for it.

Rent Cool Bikes at the Hotel

The Moselle is great to explore by bike. We work with Berlin bicycle manufacturer Urban Drivestyle and have special SUV e-bikes and e-scooters available to rent right here at the hotel.

Hiking in the Moselle Region

The Eifel, Hunsrück, and Moselle regions are inextricably linked — and every one of them has stunning hiking trails to offer.

One trail we’d especially highlight: the Moselsteig. With a total of 24 stages, it runs from the German-French-Luxembourgish border town of Perl along the entire German stretch of the Moselle all the way to its confluence at the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz.
