You also have a huge choice of bars and restaurants. From cheap drinks to chic oyster bars, everything is on offer. What’s more, the surroundings are retro and very Japanese. Really charming!

The Sotetsu Fresa Inn is only 5 minutes from the train station and is still pleasantly quiet – plus it’s a real bargain.
Fukuromachi

Fukuromachi is perfect if you want to live in the middle of the city and take a few days to visit Hiroshima.
Fukuromachi is Hiroshima’s city center and an important memorial site in Japan, as an atomic bomb was dropped on the city during the Second World War.
Today in Fukuromachi you can see the ruins of the elementary school that was hit and visit the Peace Memorial Park. You will also find Hiroshima Castle here, which is particularly beautiful during the cherry blossom season in Japan.
The choice of restaurants and stores is huge, and the neighborhood is teeming with tourists.
Pros of accommodation in Fukuromachi:
- You live in the tourist center of Hiroshima
- Very central and well-connected
- Many sights in the vicinity
Pros of accommodation in Fukuromachi:
- The proximity to the Peace Park can be oppressive
- Not as much hotel choice
Our hotel recommendations for Fukuromachi
We stayed at the Hiroshima Washington Hotel. The price-performance ratio is great, you have plenty of space in the rooms and there is a great selection of restaurants nearby.
If you want something a little more chic, we recommend The Knot. The modern hotel even has a nice rooftop bar.
Nagarekawa

Nagarekawa is the place to be if you want delicious restaurants on your doorstep and like to go out in the evening.
Nagarekawa is a lively district in Hiroshima full of bars and restaurants. The culinary highlight is the Okonomimura food court. Here you can only find the specialty Okonomiyaki in different variations.
The district is also known for its nightlife and many shopping opportunities. You can reach the center with the most important sights and the train station on foot.
