What tickets are available for public transportation?
For visitors, there are four ticket options worth knowing about:
- Single ticket: €3.50
- Day pass: €8.20
- 9 AM day pass: €6.90
- 9 AM group pass: €12.90
Our tip: Get the 9 AM day pass. It covers all public transportation throughout the day — the only restriction is rush hour between 6 and 9 AM on weekdays. On weekends and public holidays, it’s valid all day with no restrictions.
Single tickets are pricey. From your second ride onward, the 9 AM day pass already saves you money. Traveling with friends or family? The 9 AM group pass is an even better deal — up to five people can travel together on one ticket.

When is the best time to visit Hamburg?
Hamburg is at its best when life spills outdoors — so for us, the sweet spot is mid-April through mid-September.
May is especially worth targeting: Hamburg celebrates its Harbor Anniversary on the first weekend of the month, with parades and a seriously festive atmosphere.
That said, Hamburg has plenty of great indoor attractions too, which makes it a solid destination year-round. It’s even a fantastic spot for New Year’s Eve — the fireworks display over the harbor is spectacular.
How many days do you need for Hamburg?
Hamburg is perfect for a long weekend. Two full days is enough to hit the main highlights comfortably. But if you want to really soak up the Hanseatic vibe — the neighborhoods, the food scene, the waterfront — you could easily fill a week without running out of things to do.
Does it rain a lot in Hamburg?
Hamburg has a reputation as a rainy city — and that’s only partly deserved. Compared to other parts of Germany, total rainfall is actually pretty average. What sets Hamburg apart is how often it drizzles, plus the wind makes the weather shift quickly. The golden rule: always pack a rain jacket, no matter what the forecast says.
