The Most Beautiful Places on Fuerteventura in the North
The north of Fuerteventura is, for us, the most beautiful part of the island. Most places here offer a great mix of authenticity and tourist infrastructure.
Here are the five best places to visit in Fuerteventura’s north.
Corralejo
What you’ll find here: Corralejo is our absolute favorite spot on Fuerteventura. We especially love the long beach promenade, with its small town beach and the larger Waikiki Beach. A real highlight is the massive El Jable dune area — one of the coolest attractions on Fuerteventura.
Good as a vacation base? Absolutely! Corralejo is, for us, the best place to stay in the north. Beyond the main highlights, you’ll find a charming old quarter in the center with great restaurants, a long shopping street, and the harbor. From here you can easily take day trips to Los Lobos or Lanzarote.

El Cotillo
What you’ll find here: El Cotillo is a classic surfer village. You’ll find plenty of surf schools serving the surrounding beaches — one of them is La Escalera beach, which for us is one of the most beautiful places in the world. In the village itself there are cool shops and great restaurants.
Good as a vacation base? Yes, especially if you want to try surfing on Fuerteventura or are simply after a really laid-back beach vacation. The beaches around El Cotillo are stunning and the vibe in the village is super chill. The hotel selection is fairly limited, though.
Our hotel pick: El Hotelito del Cotillo, our favorite among all the adults-only hotels on Fuerteventura. The design is reminiscent of the riads in Marrakech.
Our restaurant pick: Azzurro Chill Out is our absolute favorite restaurant on Fuerteventura — serving Italian fish specialties.
Lajares
What you’ll find here: Lajares is a quiet, relaxed village with small, hip cafés and boutiques. Highlights include the Saturday craft market and the Calderón Hondo volcano at sunrise — two of our favorite under-the-radar tips on Fuerteventura.
Good as a vacation base? Yes — Lajares is ideal if you want to stay away from the purely beach-tourist towns but still have access to a great range of activities on Fuerteventura. The 22places team has stayed here too.
Our hotel pick: Surfescape Fuerteventura, with cozy rooms and a delicious breakfast. Also a popular spot for digital nomads.

La Oliva
What you’ll find here: La Oliva is the cultural heart of Fuerteventura — a place where you can experience the island’s colonial history, art, Canarian tradition, and volcanic nature in an especially intense way. You’ll find traditional houses, windmills, and small museums.
Good as a vacation base? Kind of. La Oliva could work well as a vacation base if you’re looking for an affordable rental and want total peace and quiet. There’s hardly any tourist infrastructure here — not even a proper restaurant.

Puerto del Rosario
What you’ll find here: Puerto del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura, offering a mix of harbor-city atmosphere, art and culture, and relaxed city beaches. The center has several shopping streets with stores and restaurants.
Good as a vacation base? Not really — we don’t find Puerto del Rosario particularly pretty, at least not right now. There’s a lot of construction going on, including along the promenade. That said, if you have plenty of time during your vacation on Fuerteventura, it’s worth a stroll through the city.

The Most Beautiful Places in Fuerteventura's Interior
While the interior is less popular for overnight stays, there’s seriously a lot to see out here — some of the top places to visit on Fuerteventura are tucked away inland.
Here are the five coolest spots in Fuerteventura’s interior.
Betancuria
What you’ll find here: Betancuria is considered by many to be the most beautiful place on Fuerteventura. You can definitely take great vacation photos here — the restored old manor houses make a perfect backdrop, and the surroundings are lush and green, with gardens and breathtaking views.
Good as a vacation base? No — but don’t get us wrong! Betancuria is absolutely worth a visit, just as a day trip. There are very few accommodations and the beach is quite far away. You will find lovely cafés, restaurants serving local cuisine, and a few small shops, though.
Our hotel pick: Casa Princess Arminda, a charming country house in the historic center, with four rooms and a small outdoor pool
Caleta de Fuste
What you’ll find here: Caleta de Fuste is a vacation resort in the truest sense: a beautiful, calm bay for swimming, landscaped green spaces, plenty of activities, and solid tourist infrastructure with local and international restaurants, bars, and cafés.
Good as a vacation base? For many, Caleta de Fuste is the perfect vacation spot on Fuerteventura — especially for British visitors. Honestly though, we’d rate the beauty of the place a 2/10. The restaurants are touristy and everything feels a bit inauthentic. Many hotels are family-friendly and close to the beach.
Our hotel pick: Barceló Fuerteventura Mar, one of the best family hotels on Fuerteventura, with elegant rooms and plenty of activities.
Las Playitas
What you’ll find here: Las Playitas is a small, quiet coastal village with an unspoiled charm — white houses, narrow alleyways, a harbor promenade, and a relaxed atmosphere. The volcanic beach with crystal-clear water is especially beautiful.
Good as a vacation base? Las Playitas is a popular destination on Fuerteventura for sports enthusiasts — the Playitas Resort is home to one of the largest sports complexes in Europe, with an incredibly wide range of offerings. Otherwise, we’d treat it as a day-trip stop.
Our hotel pick: Playitas Hotel – Sports Resort, known for its top-notch sports facilities, with comfortable, modern rooms.
Tarajalejo
What you’ll find here: Tarajalejo is a small fishing village where life moves slowly. The promenade itself isn’t that impressive, but the surroundings more than make up for it — there’s a beautiful black beach, a great panorama from the upper part of the village, and you can watch the daily life of the local fishermen.
Good as a vacation base? No, Tarajalejo isn’t our top pick for a home base on Fuerteventura. For a quick stop or a relaxed beach day, though, it’s great — the beach sits in a sheltered bay with calm water, making it ideal for families.
Our hotel pick: R2 Bahia Playa, a classic adults-only hotel with a direct oceanfront location.
La Lajita
What you’ll find here: Just five kilometers south of Tarajalejo lies La Lajita — also a small fishing village, with a cool black beach, small restaurants, and cafés that feel genuinely local. This is also where the Oasis Wildlife Park is located, which is popular with families traveling with kids on Fuerteventura.
Good as a vacation base? Yes — if you want to stay on the southeastern coast away from the tourist crowds in the south, we’d point you to La Lajita. For us, it’s the most beautiful spot in this corner of the island. You’ll find a few cozy apartments here.
Our hotel pick: Chabela’s Suites, a small, sweet place to stay with lovely rooms and a shared kitchen, just a two-minute walk to the beach.
The Most Beautiful Places on Fuerteventura in the South
The south of Fuerteventura is probably the most touristy part of the island, with many large hotel blocks and all-inclusive resorts. The beaches are still breathtakingly beautiful, though!
Here are the two most popular and most beautiful spots in Fuerteventura’s south.
Costa Calma
What you’ll find here: The long, wide Playa Costa Calma is definitely one of the most beautiful beaches on Fuerteventura — and it’s what puts Costa Calma among the best places to visit on Fuerteventura. Behind the beach you’ll find numerous hotel and apartment complexes.
Good as a vacation base? Yes — for many vacationers, Costa Calma is the ideal spot on Fuerteventura. You’ll find plenty of apartments and all-inclusive hotels, plus good restaurants and bars. Even though there’s no real town center, you’ll hardly miss a thing here.
Our hotel pick: Innside by Meliá Fuerteventura, one of the best beachfront hotels on Fuerteventura and our personal favorite in the south, with boho and beach vibes.
Morro Jable
What you’ll find here: Morro Jable is the last town before the Jandía Nature Park. Here you’ll find a traditional little harbor town, a stunning long beach, and many small restaurants. Follow the promenade further north and you’ll reach Jandía Playa — a three-kilometer-long resort strip with hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops.
Good as a vacation base? Absolutely! The quasi-twin destination of Morro Jable and Jandía Playa is one of the most popular areas on the island. The tourist infrastructure is excellent — plenty of restaurants, large hotel blocks, and lovely apartment complexes. And the beaches are wide with calm, clear water.
Our hotel pick: XQ El Palacete, with just 54 rooms it has a really intimate feel. The rooms are modern, incredibly bright, and all have ocean views.
