In a prime spot in Timmendorfer Strand Niendorf sits this lovingly restored 130-year-old fisherman’s house — today home to the Gästhuus.

The duplex contains two fully equipped vacation apartments with modern kitchens, washing machines, and comfortable, detail-oriented furnishings. Kids are taken care of too: outlets have child safety covers and there are stair gates.

The left unit, “Backboord,” has two bedrooms with double beds; “Stüürboord” has one bedroom with a double bed and one with bunk beds. Both apartments have a sun terrace and garden furniture.

The property sits directly on the beach promenade, with several restaurants, cafés, and shops just steps away. The beach itself is only a stone’s throw.

In the small village of Todendorf on the island of Fehmarn, you’ll find the Köhlbrandt family farm. It’s been farmed for four generations and, alongside crop farming, there’s also a pig and horse breeding operation.

There are also ponies, rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, and chickens — ideal for kids!

Riding lessons are offered several times a week, taking place either in the indoor arena or the outdoor riding ring depending on the weather. For burning off energy, there’s a playground and even a play barn.

The farm has four country houses and six vacation apartments. The Baltic Sea is close by — you can reach the sandy beach in about five minutes by car.

At the edge of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft national park sits the historic Gutshaus Nisdorf. This organic children’s and family hotel has 12 apartments and is part of the Green Pearls community — a collection of the world’s most beautiful and sustainable hotels.

Kids have so much to do on the expansive grounds. There’s a playground complete with a climbing structure, suspension bridge, slides, sandbox, swings, a trampoline, and pedal cars. A real standout is the large natural swimming pond with a lawn and sandy beach, where kids can dig, splash around, or catch frogs — or simply relax in a beach chair.

If you want to head to the actual sea, you can walk or pedal there easily. The swimming spot on the Bodden is only about 800 meters away.

Right in front of the manor house, a horse, a pony, and two sheep also live on the property. For those interested, riding lessons and guided pony rides are offered three times a week.

Childcare is available for children from age one for a few hours a day. There is also a large playroom — conveniently located right next to the dining room — plus small play corners scattered throughout the house.

Also in Klausdorf, you’ll find Bauernhof Lafrenz. The vacation houses and apartments are all set up for young children and each has its own terrace, garden furniture, and a grill.

Brand new are the six wellness houses — these come with their own sauna, a hot tub, and a fireplace. A seriously nice upgrade if you want some grown-up comfort alongside the family fun.

If you don’t feel like making your own breakfast, you can head to the farm café for the breakfast buffet. In the afternoons, it also serves coffee, cakes, and pastries from the in-house bakery.

Pony rides are offered four times a week. Kids are also taught how to properly groom, brush, and feed the ponies.

In the petting enclosures, there are goats, rabbits, and chickens to say hello to.

There’s a playground with a climbing frame, slides, swings, and a large trampoline. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, there’s also a play barn and an indoor soccer field.

The farm is only about 1 km from the Baltic Sea beach.

Wellness is a big deal on the Baltic Sea — and there are some really great family-friendly options that let parents recharge while the kids are kept busy.

On the Baltic Sea island of Usedom, just 1.5 km from the beach, this family-run hotel is located in the town of Trassenheide. The fully equipped apartments sleep up to five people. Strollers are also available to rent at the hotel.

For the kids, there’s a large playground with swings, a slide, and a sandbox in the inner courtyard, which also has its own lake.

When the weather isn’t cooperating, there’s an indoor playroom to fall back on. There is also a large wellness area with a fenced pool for adults and a children’s pool — use of these is included in your stay. Outside guests can also use the wellness area for an admission fee.

An absolute highlight is the Piraten-Insel-Usedom: a 13,000 m² adventure playground that’s part of the hotel and exclusively for guests. Every kid we’ve heard about who’s visited has gone absolutely wild for it.

For the duration of their stay, guests can use the Usedomer Bäderbahn (UBB) and all public bus lines on Usedom free of charge. A complimentary shuttle bus also runs to the beach.
