Is it worth it? Absolutely! The Lindenthaler Tierpark is the free, relaxed alternative to the Cologne Zoo. You can stroll around, watch the animals, feed them with purchased food, and even rent pedal boats on the pond. It’s seriously fun with kids too!
Our tip: Combine a walk through the city forest and the animal park with a visit to the weekly market in the Stadtwald. You’ll find the best potato pancakes in the city here, along with some seriously delicious waffles.
Rheintreppen

What do you need to know? The Rheintreppen sit on the right bank of the Rhine — also known as the Rheinboulevard. You can settle onto the wide steps, relax, grab a bite to eat, and soak up the view of the Cathedral.
Is it worth it? Totally! Nowhere else gives you such a stunning panorama of Cologne Cathedral. The Rheintreppen are especially perfect at sunset — the ideal spot to fall in love with Cologne and its beautiful skyline.

The 12 Romanesque Churches

What do you need to know? Beyond the Cathedral, Cologne has other impressive churches — twelve of them, in fact. They’re all on the left bank of the Rhine, within the old city walls, and some are even older than the Cathedral itself.
Is it worth it? You definitely shouldn’t skip the Cathedral, but when it’s truly packed, there are twelve alternatives nearby. They’re far less crowded and surrounded by charming little cafés. Win-win.
Our tip: If you’re into the churches, we recommend the app “12 Romanische Kirchen“. It’s offered for free by the Förderverein Romanische Kirchen Köln e.V.
Cool Cinemas and Theaters in Cologne

Residenz Kino Köln

What do you need to know? The Residenz Kino Köln is a luxury cinema — and that doesn’t mean it’s incredibly expensive. It just means it offers far more than a regular multiplex. There’s a bar, genuinely cozy screening rooms with leather seats, and you can order a small antipasti platter as your movie snack.
