Cartagena in Colombia

Caribbean vibes, colonial grandeur, and colorful streets: your guide to Cartagena.

Colorful street in the Getsemaní district

Our Review of Cartagena

  1. Flair

Colorful, atmospheric, and unlike anywhere else in Colombia — the city blends centuries of history with a seriously laid-back tropical vibe.

  2. Best time to visit

December through March (dry season) is the sweet spot — sunny days without the heavy humidity that rolls in the rest of the year.

  3. How long to stay

Three to four days is enough to do the city justice, plus a day trip out to the nearby islands.

  4. Price level

Pricier than the rest of Colombia, but still really affordable by European or North American standards.

  5. Food

Don't leave without trying Arepa de Huevo or fresh fish with coconut rice — ideally eaten right on the coast.

  6. Getting around

The Old Town and Getsemaní are totally walkable. For anything further, Uber is your best option.
