In a nutshell
- If you’re planning to visit lots of highlights in Cape Town, the Cape Town City Pass can genuinely save you time and money.
- The pass covers the most important attractions in the city, plus unlimited Hop-on/Hop-off bus use for the full duration.
- It comes in two versions: the Cape Town Unlimited Pass and the Cape Town Unlimited Premium Pass — the Premium version lets you add one exclusive experience of your choice, like a helicopter tour or cage diving.
What is the Cape Town City Pass?
The Cape Town City Pass (also known as the iVenture Card Cape Town or iVenture City Pass) is your ticket to over 80 attractions in Cape Town. With the Cape Town City Pass, you can visit as many sights as you like for up to five days:
The Cape Town City Pass comes in two different versions:
- Cape Town Unlimited Pass
- Cape Town Unlimited Premium Pass
How do the Cape Town City Passes work?

With the Cape Town City Pass, you get access to over 80 different attractions, highlights, and museums. You can also explore the city by Hop-on/Hop-off bus for the entire duration of the pass — which means you can put more of your budget toward the best hotels in Cape Town.
Both city passes give you three key advantages:
- You don’t have to deal with buying tickets on the spot and can even skip the line at select attractions.
- You don’t have to wrestle with the ticket machines for the Hop-on/Hop-off buses.
- In most cases, you’ll save money compared to buying tickets individually.
If convenience is your top priority, the Cape Town City Pass is a great choice — and we give it a clear recommendation:

Our verdict on the Cape Town Unlimited Pass
The Cape Town Unlimited Pass is a solid pick if you’re planning a few days of sightseeing.
In our opinion, it really pays off with a duration of three days or more. The longer the pass, the cheaper it works out per day.
If you hit two attractions per day and use the Hop-on/Hop-off bus regularly, the pass is definitely worth your money.

Pros and cons of the Cape Town Unlimited Premium Pass
- Covers all of the city’s major highlights
- A great range of premium experiences to choose from
- Hop-on/Hop-off bus included for the full duration
- Skip-the-line access at select attractions
- The premium upgrade isn’t always worth it — some premium experiences cost less than the surcharge
- Some attractions require advance time-slot booking
Our verdict on the Cape Town Premium Unlimited Pass
The Cape Town Premium Unlimited Pass costs a surcharge of 1,600 Rand over the standard pass. It only makes financial sense if the premium experience you choose costs more than that surcharge. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Mangwanani Spa for 3 hours – 2,000 Rand
- Helicopter flight over Cape Town – 2,000 Rand
- Cage diving with great white sharks – 2,450 Rand
- Whale watching tour – 1,650 Rand
- Cape Town by land, sea, and bike – 1,700 Rand
- Chauffeured city tour with Cape Side Cars – 2,400 Rand
- Sunset cruise along the coast – 2,200 Rand
- 3-hour safari from Cape Town with lunch buffet – 1,550 Rand
- Ocean safari – 1,580 Rand
- Harley Davidson chauffeur ride – 1,500 Rand
- Tandem paragliding – 1,500 Rand
The Premium Unlimited Pass is a smart investment when your chosen premium experience costs more than 1,600 Rand. If none of the pricier options appeal to you, we’d suggest sticking with the standard Unlimited Pass and booking something like tandem paragliding separately.

Visiting Cape Town Without a Pass

Honestly, the Cape Town passes aren’t the right fit for everyone. If Hop-on/Hop-off buses aren’t your thing and you’re only planning to visit a handful of places, neither pass will save you money.
To save time, we recommend buying tickets for popular attractions online in advance. During peak season, wait times at some spots can get seriously long. At the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, we waited a very long time during the second week of January — which is exactly why we switched to a skip-the-line ticket.
For these Cape Town attractions, we recommend booking tickets online before your trip or at least a few days ahead:
| Attractions | Individual Price | Get Tickets |
|---|---|---|
| Hop-on/Hop-off Bus | 345 Rand (1 day) | Buy now |
| Table Mountain Cableway | 490 Rand | Buy now |
| Two Oceans Aquarium | 265 Rand | Buy now |
| Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) | 250 Rand | Buy now |

Questions & Answers
Still have questions? No problem — we’ve got you covered!
How do I get the Cape Town City Pass?
We recommend buying your Cape Town City Pass online in advance — it saves you a good amount of time once you’re there.
You also have the option of picking it up in person at the official ticket counters.
After your purchase, you’ll receive a barcode by email, which you can show digitally at the attractions. You can also print it out if you prefer.
You can buy your Cape Town City Pass here:
From what date is the Cape Town Pass valid?
Your pass is valid immediately after purchase. Keep in mind that validity is based on calendar days, not 24-hour blocks.
If you want to use your pass from Monday to Wednesday, we’d suggest visiting the first attraction on Monday morning — that way you get the most out of each day.
Is there a discount for children?
Yes! Children between 4 and 17 years old get a discounted price. If you’re traveling to Cape Town with kids under 4 years old, they get in for free. You’ll find the exact prices further up in the respective pass sections.
Can I visit the same attraction multiple times with the Cape Town Pass?
No — each attraction can only be visited once. The exception is the Hop-on/Hop-off bus, which you can use as many times as you like across all three routes throughout the entire validity period of your pass.
Which routes do the Hop-on/Hop-off buses cover?
Cape Town has three different Hop-on/Hop-off bus routes, and your pass covers all of them. You can check the exact routes on the provider’s website.
Does the Cape Town Pass include a transfer to the airport?
No — airport transfers are not included in either of the two Cape Town passes. The airport is only about 20 minutes outside of downtown Cape Town, so getting there independently is pretty straightforward.
Our Cape Town pass comparison is updated regularly. That said, things can change unexpectedly. It’s always worth double-checking the current terms and included attractions before you commit to buying one of the passes. Thanks!
