In a nutshell
- Finding affordable hotels in Copenhagen is absolutely doable — we know the city inside and out and can tell you exactly where to look.
- There are budget-friendly options even in the city center. Our top pick downtown: the Wakeup Copenhagen – Borgergade. A double room during peak season averages around $160. A real steal!
- In neighborhoods outside the city center, you’ll find even cheaper places to stay. At the Go Hotel City, you can stay near the beach and still save serious money.
- Our top tip: Start your trip on a Sunday. Fridays and Saturdays are the priciest nights, while Sunday is consistently the cheapest day for hotels in Copenhagen.
Affordable Hotels in Copenhagen's City Center
Most hotels in Copenhagen’s city center start at prices between $230 and $250 during peak travel season. But there are also many hotels and boutique hotels in Copenhagen that cost much more. Pretty frustrating, right?
We figured there had to be a way to do it cheaper. So we dove deep into the topic of budget hotels in Copenhagen — just for you. And we succeeded!
We found a handful of places to stay with a great location in the city center that, even during peak season, cost only an average of around $200. Sometimes you can snag an even better deal at these hotels. It really depends on when you travel, though. Of course, it’s also possible that one or more of our picks will cost more at exactly that time.
With our hotel recommendations in the city center, you’ll save about 15–20 percent.
Wakeup Copenhagen - Borgergade

Average of $160 for 2 people during peak travel season
The Wakeup Copenhagen – Borgergade is our top budget hotel pick in Copenhagen’s city center.
The rooms are super modern in their design — pretty streamlined, but that’s honestly a small price to pay when you’re saving this much money.
The Wakeup Copenhagen sits right in the heart of the city, which is a seriously great location. Most things to see in Copenhagen are only about 10 minutes away on foot. For that price, it’s a real steal.

Hotel Kong Arthur

Average of $200 for 2 people during peak travel season
We really love the Hotel Kong Arthur. The rooms are completely elegant and bright — you just feel at home the moment you walk in.
The hotel itself is housed in a beautiful, historic townhouse. It sits slightly toward the edge of downtown, but still well within the city center. Highlights like the trendy Nørrebro neighborhood and Rosenborg Castle are right on your doorstep.
Because of its location and wallet-friendly price, Hotel Kong Arthur is our top pick among hotels in Copenhagen for a weekend in Copenhagen or a day trip to the Danish capital with an overnight stay.
Motel One

Average of $200 for 2 people during peak travel season
A cool vibe, stylish, colorful rooms, and great views — that’s what you get at Motel One in Copenhagen. And all at a solid price. This is definitely one of the better cheap hotels in Copenhagen that doesn’t compromise on quality.
The location is pretty much perfect. You’re right in between Tivoli, Christiansborg Palace, and the Glyptotek — one of the best museums in Copenhagen.
Scandic Spectrum

Average of $210 for 2 people during peak travel season
Affordable hotels in Copenhagen don’t usually come with great views. The Scandic Spectrum is the exception. From many rooms, you look directly out over the river that flows right past the hotel — the panoramic windows frame it perfectly.
But you don’t need to look out the window to feel comfortable here. The rooms are genuinely cozy, decorated in muted tones, and the warm lighting adds a real feel-good factor.
The hotel is located near the train station and also has its own parking garage — so whatever your mode of arrival, you’re covered.
ProfilHotels Richmond

Average of $220 for 2 people during peak travel season
A fun contrast to the Scandic Spectrum is the ProfilHotels Richmond. It’s designed in a totally bold and colorful style that instantly lifts your spirits the moment you walk in.
Some of the rooms are a bit compact, but you’ll still find room for everything you need. The breakfast buffet, on the other hand, is seriously generous — there’s plenty to choose from.
Affordable Hotels in Other Neighborhoods
Another way to find great, budget-friendly lodging in Copenhagen is to look a bit further from the city center.
The hotel selection is noticeably smaller in the outer neighborhoods. But you can still find some lovely affordable options — and honestly, Copenhagen’s more budget-friendly neighborhoods are genuinely cool in their own right.
We’ve picked out our three favorite hotels in these areas. When it comes to location, we made sure you won’t need more than 15–20 minutes on Copenhagen’s public transportation to reach the city center.
To give you a quick overview of where these neighborhoods are located, we’ve marked them on a map.
With a hotel in a more affordable neighborhood, you’ll save about 25–35 percent.
Go Hotel City

Average of $130 for 2 people during peak travel season
Did you know that Copenhagen also has a beautiful beach? Even better: at the Go Hotel City in Amager Øst, you can stay near the beach and actually save money on your Copenhagen trip. You’re still only 15–20 minutes from the city center by metro.
The rooms are modern and minimalist in design. Up on the roof, there’s a large terrace where you can kick back on sofas and bean bag chairs with a view of the sea. Honestly, that’s a pretty great deal for $130.
Bob W Østerbro Copenhagen

Average of $180 for 2 people during peak travel season
The Bob W Østerbro Copenhagen is wonderfully cozy with its muted, light tones.
The rooms are decorated with so much attention to detail. On one wall, there’s even a small Polaroid camera with film — perfect for capturing your favorite memories from Copenhagen. Super cute!
The hotel sits between Nørrebro and Østerbro. Nørrebro is a lively, multicultural neighborhood and one of our local favorites in Copenhagen. Østerbro is quieter — great for families. It’s a perfect mix for a city trip, and especially ideal if you’re visiting Copenhagen with kids. By metro, you’re in the city center in about 10–20 minutes.

If you want to go even cheaper, Copenhagen’s hostels are worth a look. There are some seriously good options — solid quality and budget-friendly, of course.
All the hostels we’ve picked are centrally located and also offer private rooms.
With a hostel in Copenhagen, you’ll save about 35–45 percent.
Next House Copenhagen

Average of $150 for 2 people during peak travel season
The Next House Copenhagen is our top hostel pick. It’s not the cheapest option on our list, but it’s simply great across the board.
The hostel has a stylish gray interior, a rooftop terrace, and sits in the city center just 10 minutes on foot from the train station. It also offers free walking tours of Copenhagen, plus all kinds of community activities — think karaoke nights, yoga classes, and quiz nights.
Every room also has its own bathroom. So even if you book a dorm bed rather than a private room, you’ll share a bathroom with a maximum of five other people.
CityHub Copenhagen

Average of $100 for 2 people during peak travel season
The CityHub Copenhagen makes super efficient use of space. As you can see in the photo, the rooms are pretty compact — beds on the upper level on one side, lower level on the other. They’re still cool and very modern in design, though.
And at CityHub, you can genuinely stay in Copenhagen on a very tight budget.
One thing to know going in: there’s no private bathroom. That’s why this hostel suits younger travelers best — those who don’t mind sharing facilities.
Urban House Copenhagen

Average of $160 for 2 people during peak travel season
The Urban House Copenhagen (Meininger) is the most characterful hostel on our list. The walls are covered in street art, there’s a game zone with pinball machines and more, local beer on tap, and a bar with live music.
The rooms are really spacious for a hostel, and you get your own bathroom too. Here’s something else we love: there are family rooms with up to four single beds for kids — ideal if you’re visiting Copenhagen with kids.
Extra Tips for Saving on Accommodation in Copenhagen
Now things get really interesting. Because you can actually save even more on top of our already-affordable Copenhagen picks if you know a few tricks. We’re going to share those insider tips with you right now.
Travel to Copenhagen During a Budget-Friendly Season
You probably already know this from other destinations: during the off-season, most hotels are cheaper than during peak travel season. In Copenhagen, this can make a difference of over $100 per night.
Copenhagen’s off-season runs from November through March.
But we also have a little extra tip for peak season: consider Copenhagen as a travel destination in July. Hotels are often at least $30–$40 cheaper than in the other peak months.
For some hotels, the difference is even bigger. The Hotel Mayfair, which has a top location, generally doesn’t make our list of good, affordable hotels in Copenhagen. But in July, it runs about $50 less and you can book it for well under $200.
In July, Danes often take their own vacations — which means fewer major conferences and business trips in the capital, and lower prices for everyone else.
Travel to Copenhagen on the Right Days of the Week
Not just the months, but the days of the week matter when you’re trying to stay in Copenhagen on a budget.
On Fridays and Saturdays, you’ll pay noticeably more for a night’s stay than on other days. If you can, it’s worth avoiding those two nights.
The cheapest night of the week is usually Sunday into Monday. The difference compared to Friday and Saturday can be as much as $100.
Mondays and Tuesdays are generally cheaper than the rest of the week too. From Wednesday onward, prices start climbing again. Your best bet is to plan your trip from Sunday through Tuesday or Wednesday.
Stay Flexible With Your Travel Month
During peak season, prices often vary week by week within the same month — a difference of about $20–$30 per night.
So if you have some flexibility, compare multiple weeks within your travel month before you commit.
Book Early
If you book early, hotels usually have a better deal on offer than if you wait until the last minute.
It also gives you time to keep an eye on prices for a while before you lock anything in.
