When rafting in Bovec, you’ll race through wild water in a group on an inflatable raft. On the rafting tours on the Soča River, you’ll always have a guide with you — so safety is taken care of.

You can choose between different difficulty levels. For families with children, there are soft rafting options, for example.

Rafting is the top activity in Bovec if you’re traveling in a group or with your family — you sit together in the boat and experience the adventure as a team.

Whitewater kayaking is a hugely popular sport in Slovenia, and Bovec is something of the capital of the sport.

But don’t worry! On your first kayaking tour, you won’t be thrown straight into whitewater — instead, you’ll paddle in a calm section of the Soča River.

Kayaking is the right choice in Bovec if you want to steer your own boat and take in the views of the landscape along the way.

Kayaking also comes in different difficulty levels. If you’ve never kayaked before, definitely book a beginner tour. More advanced whitewater options are available for experienced paddlers.

Canyoning — sometimes called gorge walking — is actually even more exciting than it sounds. The activity involves crossing canyons and rivers in a variety of ways.

You slide down rock faces, rappel, climb, swim, and jump. You’re secured the entire time — which is why it’s important to do canyoning with a guide.

A great canyoning spot near Bovec is the Sušec Creek. Beginner-friendly tours are offered here too.

If you don’t need an adrenaline rush, there are plenty of things to see around Bovec that are a bit more laid-back. A trip to the Virje Waterfall is a great option.

It’s about 4 kilometers from the center of Bovec, and there are paid parking lots at the waterfall. From there, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to get a great view of this natural spectacle.

Note that swimming is not allowed here. The upside is that you can take some seriously stunning photos of the falls.

Our tip: Another really beautiful waterfall near Bovec is the Boka Waterfall. It’s still something of a lesser-known spot in Slovenia — so you’ll find fewer tourists here.

There isn’t a whole lot to see in Bovec itself. That said, a stroll through the town center is still worthwhile — especially on rainy days.

We personally had a rainy day during our time in Bovec and spent the afternoon at Kavarna 1920. They serve delicious cake and coffee and have a great selection of board games.

The sights in Bovec include the church “Župnijska Cerkev sv. Urha” and the main street with its many bars and restaurants, which you can find here on Google Maps.
