That said, the best time to visit Cyprus is from April to October.
During these months, Cyprus is one of the most beautiful European islands for a beach vacation: pleasant temperatures ranging from around 68 to 86°F, warm seawater, and plenty of sunshine.
That means you can relax on the gorgeous beaches — for example, at one of the many beach hotels in Cyprus — or explore the diverse attractions Cyprus has to offer.
Outdoor enthusiasts will also find plenty to love: hiking, snorkeling, and even sea turtle watching are real highlights during this time.
Important: In July and August, Cyprus can experience heat waves with temperatures exceeding 86°F. The sea, at 77 to 82°F, is barely any cooler. We visited Cyprus ourselves in July and found the heat manageable.
When Is Cyprus the Most Affordable?
Prices for accommodation in Cyprus and flights to the island are generally lower outside the main season. March, April, and October in particular are great times to find good deals.
Whether you’re staying at a beach hotel or a small guesthouse, prices are usually more reasonable outside the summer months. On top of that, the sights tend to be less crowded.
Is Cyprus Worth Visiting in Winter?
Absolutely! It does get cooler in Cyprus during winter, and the sea is usually too chilly for swimming. But in return, you’ll practically have the island to yourself — no tourist crowds and plenty of peace and quiet.
Temperatures typically range between 50 and 64°F, which is ideal if you enjoy hiking or want to explore Cyprus’s highlights at a relaxed pace.
Cyprus also shows a completely different side of itself in winter: the landscape is much greener and even in bloom — perfect for nature lovers.
In the Troodos Mountains, you might even get lucky and see snow. However, due to climate change, there hasn’t been any for the past two years. Yikes!

The climate on Cyprus is predominantly Mediterranean across the entire island. There are slight differences between the coast and the interior. In cities like Nicosia, summers can get extremely hot, while coastal cities like Limassol and Paphos enjoy a pleasant sea breeze.
In the mountains of Cyprus, summers are cooler and winters occasionally bring snow.

Weather in Cyprus in January
January is one of the coolest months in Cyprus. Daytime temperatures sit at around 54 to 59°F, and nights can drop to 43°F. The sun shines an average of five to six hours per day, and rain falls on seven to nine days. The water temperature is a somewhat chilly 63°F for swimming.

February is similarly cool to January, but the days are noticeably longer. Daytime temperatures reach 55 to 59°F, with around six hours of sunshine per day. Rainfall decreases slightly, with about six to seven rainy days per month. The sea remains at winter temperatures of around 63°F.

Spring slowly starts to make itself felt. Daytime temperatures climb to 61 to 64°F, with nights cooling to around 46 to 50°F. The sun appears for about seven hours a day, and rain falls on only five to six days. The sea is still cool at around 63°F, but nature is in full bloom.

Things get noticeably warmer and drier. Temperatures range between 54 and 70°F, and the sun shines for about nine hours a day. Rainy days are rare — at most one to two for the whole month. The water temperature rises more slowly, sitting at around 64°F in April.

Summer is knocking at the door. Temperatures climb to 75 to 79°F, while nights remain pleasantly mild at 57 to 63°F. The sun shines ten hours a day and rain is no longer a concern. The sea has warmed to around 70°F — perfect for your first dip.

It’s full-on summer. Along the coast, the thermometer climbs to 82 to 90°F, and often even higher inland. The sun shines an average of 12 hours a day, and you won’t need to worry about rain at all. The water temperature is a pleasant 75°F.

July is hot and dry. In Nicosia, temperatures of 95°F are not uncommon, while coastal areas see temperatures between 86 and 91°F. The sun shines up to 13 hours a day, and rain is virtually nonexistent. The sea is perfect for swimming at 79°F.

The hottest month of the year. Daytime temperatures in many areas exceed 91°F, and inland they can reach up to 100°F. Nights stay warm at 70 to 73°F. The sun shines 12 to 13 hours, and rain is still nowhere to be found. Water temperatures hit their annual peak at 81 to 82°F.

Cyprus has been experiencing persistent drought since March 2025 — reservoirs are extremely low and the mountains saw almost no snow. For travelers, this means landscapes look dry, water is scarce, and the risk of heat waves and wildfires increases during peak season. Visitors to Cyprus should be mindful of their water usage. The Best Time to Visit Cyprus for Hiking
If you want to experience Cyprus beyond the beach and explore nature on foot, the best time for hiking in Cyprus is definitely spring from March to May and fall from September to November. Temperatures are pleasantly mild during these periods — usually between 59 and 77°F — and nature is at its most beautiful.
A hike through the Troodos Mountains, for example, is also a great activity during a road trip around Cyprus.
The Best Time to Visit Cyprus for Skiing
Yes, you read that right: skiing in Cyprus! In the Troodos Mountains, which reach elevations of around 6,400 feet, you can actually experience snow in winter, and there are small ski resorts with slopes for skiers and snowboarders — including beginners. The best time for winter sports is January to February, when snow cover is typically at its deepest.
However, there has been little to no snow in the mountains over the past two years. This makes skiing in Cyprus a rare, weather-dependent insider tip that may not be around much longer.
Sea Turtle Season in Cyprus
One of the most incredible natural experiences in Cyprus is watching sea turtles — especially at Lara Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in Cyprus. During the summer months, usually between June and August, turtles come ashore to lay their eggs in the sand.
During the summer, you can also often snorkel with adult sea turtles and observe them in their natural habitat. In our opinion, this is one of the best activities in Cyprus.
To help protect the turtles, access to Lara Bay is partially restricted, and you should be especially quiet at night. When snorkeling, stay to the side of the turtles and never touch them — this is actually illegal.
