When Is the Best Time to Visit Cuba?

The best time to visit Cuba is during the dry season from November through April. Our personal recommendation is December and January. Cuba is honestly one of our favorite winter travel destinations.

Those months are Cuba’s coolest, which makes sightseeing wonderfully comfortable. The sun still shines almost every day, and a beach vacation is absolutely doable too.

If you’re purely after a beach vacation in Cuba, the period from February through April is even better suited. That’s when you get sunshine in abundance.

What Is the Climate Like in Cuba?

Cuba has a tropical climate. With consistent temperatures around 77–86°F (25–30°C), swimming weather prevails year-round. Cuba doesn’t have traditional seasons — instead, the year is divided into a dry season and a rainy season.

• Dry season: November – April
• Rainy season: May – October

Even during the rainy season, it usually only rains in brief showers — never all day long. You can still have a great trip during this time.

Cuba's Weather in November, December, and January

November, December, and January are the perfect time to visit Cuba. They fall within the dry season, so rain is rare and the sun shines on most days.

They’re also the coolest months of the year, which makes them ideal for exploring cities like Havana, Santa Clara, Viñales, or Trinidad.

Note: During these months, pack a light jacket or sweater for the evenings — it can get quite cool after dark.

The second half of the dry season — February through April — is also a great time for a road trip through Cuba. Rainfall is even less frequent during this stretch. The flip side is that some days can get genuinely hot.

These months are perfect for a beach vacation in Varadero or on Cayo Coco.

Cuba's Weather in May, June, and July

In May, the rainy season gradually sets in. Rain is still less frequent than in June and July, making May the better choice for travel.

That said, it doesn’t rain every day in June and July either — showers are often brief but intense. So you can still have a fantastic trip to Cuba during these months.

Although hurricane season begins in June, actual hurricanes are still relatively rare in June and July.

October already sees less rain. It also marks the gradual end of hurricane season, making it a significantly better time to go to Cuba.

Tips on the Rainy Season and Hurricane Season in Cuba

Cuba’s rainy season runs roughly from May through October. During this time, heavy showers and storms are common.

If a tropical storm is threatening, stay indoors as much as possible. Power outages are also common during these events — make sure to bring a power bank with you.

Note: Tropical storms and rain showers can occur during the dry season too. Don’t get caught off guard!

The official hurricane season runs from June through November. Most tropical storms near Cuba form in August and September — but nearly all hurricanes stay out at sea and never make landfall.

During hurricane season — especially August and September — keep a close eye on the weather. If a hurricane warning is in effect, stay as far inland as possible and definitely stay indoors.
