Climate Chart for Albania (Tirana)

Albania's Climate Month by Month
The climate chart gives you a solid overview of what to expect weather-wise in Albania. Here’s a closer look at each month.
Weather in Albania in January
January in Albania is cold and rainy, with heavy snow in the mountains. That makes it a poor choice for a road trip. If the cold doesn’t put you off, though, you can still explore cities like Shkodra, Berat, or Tirana even in winter.
Weather in Albania in February
February is similar to January — not the most inspiring month for a vacation. That said, if you’re just looking to escape a cold winter back home, Albania can work well. Daytime temperatures sometimes climb above 59°F (15°C), which already feels like a win.
Weather in Albania in March
Things gradually warm up in March, and you can already enjoy city breaks or a road trip through Albania — with hardly any other tourists around. There’s still plenty of snow in the mountains, though, and it’s too cold for swimming.
Weather in Albania in April
April is a real under-the-radar pick for Albania. Daytime temperatures can top 68°F (20°C), and the brave ones can even take a dip in the sea. There’s still too much snow in the mountains for hiking, but the rest of the country is perfect for relaxed sightseeing.
Weather in Albania in May
May slowly kicks off the tourist season. The Mediterranean is warming up and a beach vacation becomes viable. Snow in the mountains is starting to melt and the first hikes become doable. The mild temperatures in May make it ideal for a road trip through Albania.
Weather in Albania in June
We visited Albania in June and honestly thought it was perfect. It’s not yet peak season, but it’s already warm everywhere and you can swim in the sea. Rainy days are rare, and there’s hardly any snow left in the mountains — great for hiking. You’ll see other tourists in June, but it never feels overcrowded.
Weather in Albania in July
July marks the start of peak season in Albania. It gets seriously hot, which is why the beaches fill up fast. The swimming is fantastic, and you can always head up into the mountains to escape the heat. If you don’t mind busy beaches, July is a great time to go.
Weather in Albania in August
August is peak travel season — hot, dry, and busy. It barely rains, so you can count on plenty of sunshine most days, making it the ideal month for a proper beach holiday. The one downside: the dryness also means wildfires are common across Albania in August.
Weather in Albania in September
In September, the crowds start to thin out. Both the beaches and hiking trails are less packed, but the weather is still warm and sunny. The landscape can look dry after months without rain, but otherwise a trip to Albania in September is really wonderful.
Weather in Albania in October
October is another local favorite for visiting Albania. The Mediterranean is still warm enough for swimming and the temperatures are great for sightseeing. The only caveat: if hiking is your main goal, you may want to pick a different month — snow can already appear in the mountains.
Weather in Albania in November
In November, temperatures drop noticeably and it rains often. That makes November a poor fit for hiking or swimming. For a short city break, though, Albania is still worth considering — it stays fairly mild and you can still catch the occasional beautiful fall day.
Weather in Albania in December
December brings cold temperatures and fewer sunny days. Winter sets in and rain is frequent. Christmas is a public holiday in Albania, though it’s a lower-key affair than in many Western countries, since the majority of the population is Muslim.
The Best Time to Visit Albania for Hiking
The best months for hiking are June through September — especially if you’re heading into the high mountains like the Albanian Alps.
Outside of this window, snow covers the mountains, and that can make hikes quickly dangerous — especially without the right gear and experience.
At higher elevations, such as on the Peaks of the Balkans Trail, snow can linger until around mid-June. The first snowfall after summer can arrive as early as mid-September.
Really heavy snow in the mountain regions falls mainly during the winter months of November through April. Passes can become impassable and popular routes in Theth and Valbona are often closed. Avalanche risk makes hiking in Albania genuinely dangerous in winter.
If you’re planning coastal hikes, those are doable year-round. The off-season from October to May is actually better for that — it’s cooler and the beaches are blissfully empty.

The Best Time to Visit Albania for a Beach Vacation
If a beach holiday is the goal, June through September is your window. Water temperatures are between 68 and 77°F (20–25°C) — seriously refreshing for swimming.
The sun shines on most days, so you can count on solid beach time.
As an alternative, we’d suggest May or October — the water isn’t quite as warm, but the beaches are noticeably less crowded and you’ll get some amazing photos without a sea of umbrellas in the background.
