- Because the island is so well known, don’t expect deserted beaches — Phuket is Thailand’s ultimate tourist hotspot, and the crowds show it.
- That said, the best beaches in Phuket are still seriously beautiful. Our personal favorites are Kata Noi Beach, Freedom Beach, and Haad Laem Sing — all on the west coast.
The Most Beautiful Phuket Beaches on a Map
For a better overview of where the best beaches in Phuket are located, we’ve marked them all on a map.
Your best bet is to rent a scooter or take a taxi to explore them — the distances on the island are simply too large to cover on foot.
Kata Noi
What you need to know: Kata Noi is a gorgeous sandy beach set in nature — and it still has all the infrastructure you need, with lounge chairs for rent and restaurants nearby. Some days the water is completely calm and turquoise blue; on others, the waves are big enough to surf.
How do you get there? If you’re on a scooter, you can park along the road running parallel to the beach. Otherwise, grab a taxi or Grab. If you’re staying in Kata, it’s also walkable — about 20 minutes. The public Smart Bus also runs to Kata.
Our hotel tip: The Shore is a seriously luxurious place to stay right on Kata Noi Beach. Breathtaking views, gorgeous rooms — and yes, you can actually spot it in the background of the photo above.
Freedom Beach
What you need to know: Freedom Beach is tucked away in a cove near the tourist hub of Patong, and it delivers everything you’d want from a Thai beach: calm turquoise water, soft sand, natural surroundings, and a restaurant with restrooms. Entry costs 100 Baht — unless you arrive by boat.
Is it worth it? Absolutely. We had a fantastic beach day here. Come in the morning if you can — there’s more shade and far fewer people around.
How do you get there? From Patong, you can hop on a longtail boat. Alternatively, ride a scooter or take a taxi to the road above Freedom Beach. From there, it’s a steep 500-meter walk down, or you can take a small shuttle taxi to the beach.
Our hotel tip: There’s no hotel directly at Freedom Beach, but the Avista Hideaway Phuket Patong – MGallery is very close by, right on the lovely Tri Trang Beach.
Haad Laem Sing
What you need to know: If you want a quiet, natural beach away from the crowds, Haad Laem Sing is the one. It’s relatively small, set among trees and rocks, and only reachable via a short hiking trail or by boat — which is exactly why it stays so calm by Phuket standards.
Is it worth it? Absolutely. For us, this is one of the absolute highlights on Phuket. Just watch out for rocks when swimming, and know that there are no cafés or restrooms here.
How do you get there? From the southern end of Surin Beach, it’s a 10-minute walk along a small path. You can also take a boat from Surin Beach.
Our hotel tip: The Outrigger Surin Beach Resort is a great pool hotel on Surin Beach — excellently equipped and stylishly decorated.
Nai Thon Beach
What you need to know: Nai Thon Beach sits further north than most of Phuket’s beaches, which means fewer tourists make it out here. It’s a long, wide stretch of sand where you can always find a free spot — and the street food stalls along the road are seriously good.
How do you get there? By scooter or taxi. You can park your scooter on the roadside right next to the beach.
Our hotel tip: There are only a handful of hotels at Nai Thon Beach, which keeps the whole area wonderfully peaceful. Perfect for unwinding! We recommend the Pullman Phuket Arcadia.
Yanui Beach
What you need to know: Yanui Beach is a real all-rounder among the best beaches in Phuket. The left side is perfect for snorkeling; the right side is great for swimming. There are lounge chairs for rent and a variety of restaurants along the road.
Is it worth it? Yes! Come early and it won’t be too crowded. We also really recommend checking out the Windmill Viewpoint nearby.
How do you get there? By scooter or taxi. There’s a road right at the beach, so getting here is super straightforward.
Our hotel tip: There aren’t many hotels at Yanui Beach, but the Ocean Pie Phuket is a really lovely option — less than a five-minute walk to the beach.
Surin Beach
What you need to know: Remember Haad Laem Sing at number three? You can only get there from Surin Beach — and Surin itself is gorgeous too. It’s right in town, so it’s not as untouched as its neighbor, but the water is still absolutely dreamy.
Is it worth it? Yes, though we’d mainly make the trip to also visit Haad Laem Sing, or if you’re already staying in Surin.
How do you get there? By public Smart Bus, scooter, or taxi. Surin Beach is very easy to reach.
Our hotel tip: We recommend the Outrigger Surin Beach Resort — just 200 meters from the beach.
Nui Beach
What you need to know: Nui Beach is a small beach you can only reach via a very bumpy road. There are a few bars, swings, and photo-ready decorations on the beach. Entry costs 100 Baht. If you’re up for a little adventure and want some Instagram-worthy shots, Nui Beach delivers — but go in knowing what you’re getting.
Is it worth it? Honestly, not really. It’s very much geared toward tourists, and in our opinion the tricky journey just isn’t worth it.
How do you get there? You can take a shuttle to the beach from this spot (Google Maps link) for 100 Baht, or ride a scooter. We’d skip the scooter though — the road is really steep and dangerous. Better to park at the top and take the shuttle. You can walk too, but the path is unpleasant and tiring.
Our hotel tip: You can’t stay overnight at Nui Beach itself. But nearby Kata is one of the best areas to stay in Phuket. There we recommend the Niranapa Boutique Resort — the property is fantastic!
Banana Beach
What you need to know: Banana Beach is on the small island of Koh Hey and is a popular day trip from Phuket. The speedboat ride takes about an hour. Snorkeling here is excellent — fish and coral reefs everywhere. The beach itself is long with soft sand. Really great for families!
Is it worth it? Yes — especially if you enjoy snorkeling or are traveling with kids, Banana Beach is totally worth it.
How do you get there? Your best bet is to book a guided boat tour to Koh Hey from Phuket. Most tours also stop at Koh Racha — our pick number ten.
Our hotel tip: If you’re planning to visit Banana Beach, staying in the south of Phuket makes the most sense — most boats leave from Chalong Pier. A lovely nearby option is the Saturdays Residence.
Khai Nai
What you need to know: Khai Nai offers a slightly different beach experience — there are small huts for food, dramatic rocks perfect for photos, turquoise water, and fine sand. It sounds idyllic, but there’s a catch.
Is it worth it? Honestly, no. The island gets completely overrun with visitors (unless you arrive very early or late in the day), and vendors are everywhere trying to sell you something. It’s hard to enjoy the natural beauty with all that going on.
How do you get there? We recommend combining a visit with a boat trip to Koh Phi Phi and Maya Bay. If you’re planning this excursion, Phuket’s Old Town is a great base.
Our hotel tip: Xinlor House — a lovely place to stay in the Old Town with an excellent price-to-value ratio.
Koh Raya
What you need to know: Koh Raya is another stunning island near Phuket — and honestly, we couldn’t pick just one beach to highlight here. The best-known spots are Siam Bay and Bungalow Bay. By speedboat it takes about an hour to get there.
Is it worth it? Absolutely, especially if you want to escape the hustle of Phuket. It works even better if you stay overnight — there are very few hotels on the island, which keeps it wonderfully quiet.
How do you get there? You can book a boat tour to Koh Raya that also includes Koh Hey, or take the ferry from Chalong Pier.
Our hotel tip: On Koh Raya, we recommend The Racha — not exactly cheap, but absolutely stunning!
Alternatives to a Beach Vacation in Phuket
Phuket is Thailand’s premier tourist destination and packed with hotels. The beaches are correspondingly busy and have, in our opinion, lost a little of their charm over the years.
If that’s not quite your thing, here are other islands worth considering for your beach vacation:
- Koh Yao Noi: peaceful beaches and authentic local culture.
- Koh Phangan: a cool off-the-grid community, dream beaches, and Full Moon Parties.
- Koh Phi Phi: also pretty crowded, but a really fun backpacker and party scene.
- Koh Lanta: super laid-back, quiet beaches, and great for families.
- Koh Samui: well-connected with lots of natural beauty.

Frequently Asked Questions About Phuket Beaches
Are the beaches in Phuket overcrowded?
Unfortunately, yes. Even at the quieter beaches, you’ll always run into other tourists.
There are no truly deserted beaches in Phuket — unless you visit during the rainy season, when things do thin out considerably.
Which part of Phuket has the most beautiful beaches?
The west coast. You’ll find most of Phuket’s best beaches in the southern section of the west coast — check our map above for a full overview.
Which beaches in Phuket should you avoid?
Several beaches get seriously overcrowded. We’d skip Patong Beach and Kamala Beach — both sit right next to major tourist hubs and are almost always packed.
Are the beaches in Phuket clean?
It was okay when we visited. At the beaches we went to, we didn’t notice excessive amounts of trash.
That said, Phuket’s beaches aren’t exactly pristine either — manage your expectations.
