Map of the Most Beautiful Fuerteventura Beaches
To give you a better overview, we’ve marked the best beaches in Fuerteventura on a map.
You can clearly see that the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura are spread mainly across the north and south.

The Best Beaches in Northern Fuerteventura
In the north you’ll find some of the most stunning beaches in Fuerteventura. They’re expansive and often pleasantly quiet — perfect for a long walk or simply switching off.
At the same time, the north is a hotspot for surfers and kitesurfers, as the wind and waves here are usually ideal. Here are the four best beaches in northern Fuerteventura.
Grandes Playas Corralejo
- Sandy beach
- family-friendly
- lifeguards during peak season
- windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing
What to expect: Just two minutes behind our favorite town, Corralejo, you’ll find the dunes. It’s seriously a dream setting: for miles there’s nothing but golden sand and Caribbean-blue water. You also get a great view of the small island of Lobos. The dunes stretch across several beaches; the best known is Flag Beach, next to the Riu Hotels. In summer the water is calm and perfect if you’re visiting Fuerteventura with kids.
Our tip: At the northern end there are always lots of kitesurfers out on the water — it looks like hundreds of butterflies in the air. Flag Beach is also a great beginner spot for surfing in Fuerteventura.
Our hotel pick: Hotel Tao Caleta Mar, one of the most beautiful hotels in Corralejo, right on the dunes.

Playa de La Concha on Lobos

- Sandy beach
- snorkeling
- family-friendly
- no lifeguards
What to expect: A day trip to Lobos is one of the top activities in Fuerteventura. The island sits just off Corralejo and is barely big enough to fit a volcano. Just a ten-minute walk from the boat dock you’ll find Playa de La Concha — a lovely, family-friendly sandy beach. If it gets too crowded, we’d suggest the natural pools behind the village of El Puertito.
Our tip: You can’t spend the night on Lobos and there’s only one restaurant — make sure to place your order right when you arrive in the morning.
Our hotel pick: Buendía Corralejo Nohotel, spacious, family-friendly apartments close to the harbor in Corralejo.

La Concha in El Cotillo

- Sandy beach
- family-friendly
- restaurant nearby
- gets quite crowded in summer
What to expect: Playa de La Concha is the best beach in El Cotillo for swimming and for families. The rocks shelter the bay and the water stays nice and calm. At low tide, small pools form where even young children can splash around safely. A special bonus: right behind the beach is one of our absolute favorite restaurants in Fuerteventura, Azzurro (open in Google Maps).
Our tip: In November, a kite festival takes place at Playa de La Concha and the sky fills with hundreds of colorful kites. Totally worth timing your trip around — and one of our best insider tips for Fuerteventura!
Our hotel pick: Cotillo Sunset, an affordable apartment complex right on the beach next to Playa de La Concha.
Playa del Castillo / Piedra Playa
What to expect: Just outside El Cotillo you’ll find the double beach Playa del Castillo / Piedra Playa. It’s super long and sits below a dramatic cliff. For swimming and for families, we’d recommend only the first section — and only in summer, when the water is calm. In winter, on the other hand, you can watch massive waves and surfers roll in during a beach walk.
Our tip: This beach is also ideal if you want to surf in Fuerteventura. You can reach it by taking the gravel road at the southern end of Cotillo.
Our hotel pick: El Hotelito del Cotillo, one of the best boutique hotels in Fuerteventura — our favorite place to stay right in the heart of El Cotillo.
The Most Beautiful Beaches in Fuerteventura's Interior
The beaches in Fuerteventura’s interior often feel wilder and more unspoiled than those in the north or south. Think secluded coves, black lava rocks, and golden sand.
Our two favorite spots here are, unlike others in the area, more on the touristy side — but that also means they’re easy to reach. They’re so beautiful, though, that they absolutely belong on any list of the best beaches in Fuerteventura.
Playa de Ajuy
- black sand beach
- family-friendly
- dining options nearby
- no hotels on site
What to expect: Playa de Ajuy is a black lava beach made up of sand and larger rocks. You can often swim here, but on days with waves you need to watch out for the surf. Right next to the beach are some really cool pirate caves you can reach on foot via a short path in just a few minutes. You’ll find more details about the caves in our article on the best things to see in Fuerteventura.
Our tip: The small village has some great fish restaurants with ocean views. Just trust the ratings on Google Maps — they don’t disappoint.
Note: There are no accommodations in Ajuy — your best bet is to make it a day trip.
Playa de la Pared
- lifeguard
- sandy beach
- stunning sunset
- less suitable for swimming
What to expect: La Pared is hands-down Fuerteventura’s most beautiful beach for sunsets! The sandy beach sits below a dramatic cliff and makes for a stunning backdrop for your best travel photos. La Pared isn’t suitable for swimming, as there are often massive waves and strong currents.
Our tip: Just before the beach there’s a wonderful café called Caveto where you can get delicious cake, breakfast, and great coffee.
Our hotel pick: La Pared Sports Hotel, a nice hotel with ocean views and a two-minute walk to the beach.
Important: When searching for La Pared on Google Maps, you need to enter “Playa del Viejo Reyes.”
The Best Beaches in Southern Fuerteventura
In the south you’ll find what are arguably the most spectacular beaches in Fuerteventura. Endless stretches of sand, crystal-clear water, and an almost tropical color palette make these beaches genuinely postcard-worthy.
Here you can walk for miles along the ocean without running into many people. While the east coast slopes gently into the sea and is ideal for swimming, the west coast is wild and untamed — perfect for those seeking a bit of adventure.
Here are our four favorite beaches in southern Fuerteventura.
Playas de Costa Calma
- very family-friendly
- sandy beach
- beach bars
- quite touristy
What to expect: Costa Calma offers a super long sandy beach that’s great for swimming and perfect for young children. The water is calm and shallow, and there’s usually much less wind than on the west coast (like at La Pared). There are a few nice beach bars with restrooms right on the sand, and just behind the beach in town you’ll find even more restaurants and cafés.
Good to know: There are also a lot of large hotels here, which normally isn’t really our thing. But the vibe is actually quite relaxed and not as typically touristy as you might expect.
Our hotel pick: R2 Maryvent Beach Apartments, one of the best beachfront hotels in Fuerteventura with modern apartments.
Sotavento
- kite- and windsurfing
- sandy beach
- very, very windy
What to expect: Playa de Sotavento is actually two beaches in one. The northern section, Playa Barco, is the ultimate kitesurfing spot in Fuerteventura — the René Egli kite school here also has a small, lovely café. The southern section, Risco del Paso, is reserved for windsurfers. At low tide, large shallow lagoons form between the shore and the sandbars, creating a calm stretch of water that’s perfect for a swim.
Our tip: Both beaches are seriously great for a stroll while watching the water sports action. The colorful kites look just like a swarm of bright butterflies against the sky.
Our hotel pick: INNSiDE by Meliá, one of the best adults-only hotels in Fuerteventura, right on the wide sandy beach.
Playa del Matorral
- family-friendly
- lifeguard
- kiosk on the beach
- surfing
What to expect: Playa del Matorral sits right in front of the popular resort towns of Morro Jable and Jandía. The beach stretches for more than four kilometers and is simply stunning. Despite the tourist crowds, it never feels overcrowded — really impressive for a beach this accessible! The water is clear, turquoise, and usually calm, and the sand slopes gently into the sea — ideal for families and less confident swimmers.
Our tip: A few beach bars make it easy to grab a snack without leaving the sand. And in Morro Jable itself you’ll find plenty more good restaurants and cafés worth exploring.
Our hotel pick: Occidental Jandía Mar, one of the best family hotels in Fuerteventura with a cool splash park.
Playa de Cofete

- sandy beach
- hardly any tourists
- no lifeguards
- not suitable for swimming
What to expect: Cofete is one of the most impressive beaches in Fuerteventura — a 14-kilometer-long stretch of sand backed by a steeply rising mountain range. Above Playa de Cofete stands the famous Villa Winter. The drive takes about 45 minutes from Morro Jable along a gravel road through the Jandía Nature Park, but in return the beach is often completely deserted. You’ll find more tips on getting there in our article about the south of Fuerteventura.
Important: At Cofete you should absolutely never go into the water — not even to ankle depth — because massive waves can appear out of nowhere. People regularly drown here due to the currents.
Best base: Apartamentos Atalaya de Jandía, a charming apartment complex with breathtaking views in Morro Jable.
Good to know: If you’d rather not tackle the challenging drive yourself, you can join a guided Jeep tour instead.
