Everything at Ikigai Uluwatu has a Japanese touch. It starts with the name itself — it’s Japanese and roughly translates to “that which makes life worth living.”
This small design hotel is a cool blend of Japan and Bali. The staff is incredibly kind and as hospitable as you’d find anywhere on the island. The décor, on the other hand, is pure Zen style — totally minimalist, with clean lines, open spaces, and a few ochre accents. You feel at ease right away and notice yourself unwinding.

La Cabane
Our next Bali boutique hotel pick even has its own private beach. Just walk down a few steps and you’re standing with your feet in the sand.
La Cabane has so much more going for it, though. It consists of six uniquely decorated bungalows and one villa. Everything is small, quiet, and intimate. With the palm trees, the little thatched-roof wooden huts, and the pool, it feels like a little slice of paradise.
All the rooms are beautifully decorated with a lot of attention to detail. We can’t quite put a label on the style — it’s a mix of rustic, boho, and Balinese architecture.
Your bathroom is covered but still open to the outdoors. Absolutely lovely!

So you get all the amenities you’d find at other hotels on Nusa Penida, including a pool — but on top of that, you’re right in the middle of nature the moment you pull back the tent flap. The tents are set on platforms above the jungle, giving you a sweeping view of the entire canopy at once.
Pramana Natura
At Pramana Natura, you can choose between a room or a small villa. The villas have a private pool and are genuinely spacious. The rooms are a bit smaller but more affordable, and you can use the beautiful hotel pool.
Pramana Natura sits right on the ocean and has such a gorgeous maritime feel that it’s earned a spot on our list of favorite oceanfront hotels on Bali. The sea views are seriously incredible — you get them from every room and from the infinity pool. The one caveat: this boutique hotel doesn’t have a beach.
Villa Kayu Lama
There may be no ocean in the center of Bali, but near Ubud you can stay in a design hotel right in the middle of Bali’s rice fields. Everything around Villa Kayu Lama is lush and green: the rice fields, the palm trees, the jungle plants.
If you book about six to eight weeks in advance, you can get a room starting at around $60. A great price for one of the best boutique hotels in Bali. For around $200, you can even rent an entire villa within the hotel complex.
By the way, hotels in Ubud make a perfect base for exploring Bali’s interior. You’re just a short trip away from Bali’s waterfalls, temples, and rice fields.

The Edicha is super tiny. It has just three rooms, each one beautifully bright and airy.
Lovina in the north is still an under-the-radar spot on Bali, unlike the south and center. That works in your favor, because you can stay here for a really great price. A double room including breakfast starts at just $50.
Speaking of breakfast: it’s absolutely outstanding here! The owner has his own bakery, which supplies fresh rolls, croissants, pastries, and more every morning.
