Volkshotel Amsterdam
The Volkshotel is one of our favorite places to stay in Amsterdam. A true bang-for-your-buck winner — and one of the best family hotels in the city.
It sits a little outside the city center, which means nights here are nice and quiet. Transit connections are excellent, though — the train, just a stone’s throw from the hotel, gets you to Amsterdam’s city center in just 10 minutes.
For families, the Volkshotel has family rooms for up to four people — either with two double beds or with one double bed and two single beds.
The hotel also has its own parking lot, which is a real bonus if you’re arriving by car. Parking in Amsterdam can be quite the challenge.
Breakfast with a wide selection can be added as an optional extra, and dogs are welcome at the hotel — though fees may apply, so it’s worth asking in advance.
When sightseeing isn’t on the agenda, Oosterpark is right nearby, complete with a playground and water feature. Perfect for letting the kids burn off some energy.
Attic Monkeys Lodge
Small but mighty — that’s the attic-level bed & breakfast Attic Monkeys.
You stay in a historic canal house right in the hip and central Jordaan neighborhood. For families, there’s a room for four people with a double bed and two single beds, plus a bathroom, a small kitchenette, and a private balcony.
You’re right in the middle of the stunning canal belt — the Anne Frank House is just around the corner, and Amsterdam Centraal station is a 10-minute walk away.
The property also offers its own bike rental, so if you want to explore Amsterdam’s highlights on two wheels, you’re all set.
Breakfast isn’t available here, which is a little confusing given the “bed & breakfast” name. That said, there are plenty of great cafés in the surrounding area — and there’s a coffee machine in the room, so at least mornings start right.
MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam
Meininger is a Europe-wide hotel chain that hits a sweet spot between affordable prices and real comfort. If you’re heading to Amsterdam with kids, this is a solid way to keep costs down.
The hotel is located fairly far outside the city center, but Amsterdam’s public transit is excellent — you can be in the thick of things by train in about 25 minutes.
The family rooms for up to four people are spacious, with two pushed-together single beds and a bunk bed. Cribs for babies can be requested free of charge.
Breakfast can be added as an optional extra, and you can also book a spot in the hotel’s own parking lot. Pets are welcome at Meininger Amsterdam too.
Book MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam
Stayokay Hostel Amsterdam
The Stayokay is one of the best hostels with family rooms in Amsterdam — charming, colorful, and in a fantastic location.
Family rooms are designed for four people, with two single beds and a bunk bed for two kids. Breakfast can be added as an optional extra.
The neighborhood is genuinely great for families. It’s very green, and the hostel is right next to Vondelpark, with a water playground, children’s kitchen, rose garden, and plenty of restaurants.
The Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum are also just a short walk away.
On foot, it’s about 25 minutes to the city center — but the walk is genuinely lovely and totally worth it. Or hop on the train and you’re there in 15 minutes.
Bob W Amsterdam Noord
One of the most modern family hotels in Amsterdam is the Bob W. We’ve stayed here ourselves and absolutely loved it!
For families, there are several room options: a Superior Suite at 23 square meters, a Deluxe Suite at 31 square meters, or a Studio for four people with a double bed and a sofa bed.
The combination of elegant design and family-friendly comfort is spot-on. And beyond the beautiful rooms, there’s a rooftop terrace with a pool and seriously stunning views.
The Bob W also has its own parking spots, and dogs are welcome.
The location in Amsterdam Noord is genuinely cool — even with kids. As well as the A’DAM Lookout, Noord is home to the STRAAT Museum, the NDSM Wharf, and This is Holland.
YAYS Amsterdam
YAYS is a bright, minimalist apartment hotel for families in Amsterdam, right on the harbor. Among the various family apartments for up to six people, there are even options with canal views — truly something special.
The apartments have multiple bedrooms, making them a great choice whether you’re traveling with young children or with teenagers.
The harbor location is nice and quiet. The city center is about 30 minutes on foot or around 25 minutes by train.
And beyond the canal views, YAYS has another standout feature: its own grocery delivery service. Super convenient!
So it doesn’t matter at all that breakfast isn’t served here — you can simply have everything you need delivered straight to your door.
Tribe Amsterdam City
The Tribe in Amsterdam Noord is seriously stylish and a real feast for the eyes. A cool mix of modern design and 70s influences runs through the whole hotel.
With kids, you can book a Superior Room with a queen-size bed and a single sofa bed, or a queen-size bed and a double sofa bed.
Breakfast is available as an optional add-on, and private parking spots are available for a fee.
Thanks to its location in Amsterdam Noord — on the other side of the IJ — you’re completely shielded from the noise of the city center.
Getting there is still super easy, though, via the free ferry, which runs pretty much around the clock in both directions. It drops you right at the main train station, from where you can kick off your Amsterdam adventures.
Nearby kid-friendly highlights include the NEMO Museum and the Wondr Experience.
ClinkNOORD Hostel
Also in Amsterdam Noord, the ClinkNOORD Hostel offers family rooms at genuinely affordable prices.
Family rooms here are 14 square meters with a private bathroom, a double bed, and two bunk beds — room for up to six people.
The common areas are a real highlight too. There’s a lounge with a foosball table, a café, a library, and small workspaces. The kids will have no trouble keeping themselves entertained.
A breakfast buffet can be added as an optional extra.
Via Amsterdam
We’ve got one more great family hostel in Amsterdam for you — the Via Amsterdam.
It’s located outside the city center in the Venserpolder neighborhood — about 40 minutes by train — and it’s a really cool hybrid hostel: part hotel, part hostel.
For families, there are 4-bed rooms with a private bathroom and bunk beds, or a private dorm for six people.
Breakfast can be added as an optional extra, and private parking spots are available for a fee.
