In a nutshell
- Finding good family hotels in Amsterdam at affordable prices is not that easy. We have done the work for you and selected 9 family-friendly hotels – sorted by price-performance ratio.
- All our selected hotels in Amsterdam have family rooms and suite for four to six people. Some also allow dogs.
- Our price-performance winner and personal favorite is the Volkshotel Amsterdam – it offers large family rooms.
Volkshotel Amsterdam

The Volkshotel Amsterdam is one of our favorite hotels in Amsterdam. A real price-performance winner!
It’s located just outside the city center where it’s nice and quiet at night. From here, you can reach the city center of Amsterdam in 10 minutes by train, which is just a stone’s throw from the hotel.
The Volkshotel offers family rooms for up to four people. Either with two double beds or with one double bed and two single beds.
The hotel also has its own parking lot. Perfect if you are traveling by car because parking spaces in Amsterdam are a real problem.
Breakfast with a large selection can be booked as an option, and dogs are also allowed in the hotel. However, there may be extra charges. You should inquire about this in advance.
Also great for children: the Oosterpark just around the corner offers a playground and a water park.
Attic Monkeys Lodge

The Bed & Breakfast Attic Monkeys is a small family hotel in Amsterdam and really nice.
You stay in a historic canal house in the hip and central Jordaan district. For families, there is a room for four people with a double bed and two single beds, as well as a bathroom, small kitchenette and private balcony.
You are surrounded by the beautiful canal belt and the Anne Frank House. Amsterdam Centraal station is also just a 10-minute walk away.
The accommodation also offers its own bike rental service. So if you want to explore the best attractions in Amsterdam by bike, this is a great option.
Unfortunately, the Attic Monkeys Lodge does not serve breakfast. Quite confusing because it calls itself a bed & breakfast. However, there are some good cafés in the area. And of course, a coffee machine in the room, hehe.
MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam

Meininger is a Europe-wide hotel chain that combines affordable prices with comfort. If you are traveling to Amsterdam with kids, you can save a lot of money here.
The hotel is located relatively far outside the city center. However, it is well-connected to Amsterdam’s public transport network, and you can be in the heart of the action in 25 minutes by train.
The family rooms for up to four people are spacious and offer two single beds pushed together and a bunk bed. Extra beds for babies can be requested and are free of charge.
Breakfast can also be booked as an option. Just like a parking space in the hotel’s own parking lot. Pets are allowed at the Meininger Amsterdam.

Stayokay Hostel Amsterdam

Stayokay is one of several really great hostels with family rooms in Amsterdam. Pretty, colorful and in a fantastic location.
The family rooms are designed for four people. With two single beds and a bunk bed for two children. You can also book breakfast here as an option.
The area around the hostel is great for kids. It’s very green, and the hostel is close to the Vondelpark with its water playground, children’s kitchen, rose garden and various restaurants.
The Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum are also just a stone’s throw away.
It takes about 25 minutes to walk from the Stayokay Hostel to the city center. Sounds long, but the walk is really nice and well worth it. Alternatively, the train ride takes 15 minutes.
Bob W Amsterdam Noord

A modern family hotel in Amsterdam is the Bob W. We have already stayed here ourselves and are thrilled!
There are several room options for families. Either a superior suite with 23 square meters, a deluxe suite of 31 square meters or the studio for four people with a double bed and a sofa bed.
We think the combination of an elegant hotel and comfort for families is a total success. In addition to the beautiful rooms, a roof terrace with pool and fantastic views awaits you.
The Bob W Hotel also has its own parking spaces and dogs are welcome.
The location in Amsterdam Noord is also really cool – even with kids. In addition to the A’DAM Lookout, Noord is also home to the STRAAT Museum, the NDMS shipyard and This is Holland.
YAYS Amsterdam

YAYS is a bright, minimalist family hotel in Amsterdam and is located directly on the harbor. It is also one of the few Amsterdam hotels for a family of 5 or 6. You even have the option of an apartment with a canal view.
The apartments have several bedrooms and are therefore also great if you are traveling with teenagers.
The location by the harbor is nice and quiet. You can walk to the city center in around 30 minutes. By train, it takes around 25 minutes.
And in addition to the canal view, YAYS has another special feature to offer: its own food delivery service. So it doesn’t matter at all that breakfast isn’t served here.
Tribe Amsterdam City

The Tribe in Amsterdam Noord is really fancy and a feast for the eyes. There is a cool mix of modern vibe and 70s influences throughout the hotel.
The best family room in this hotel in Amsterdam is the superior room with a queen-size bed and single sofa or a double sofa bed.
Breakfast can be booked as an option and private parking is also available for a fee.
Thanks to its location in Amsterdam Noord, on the other side of the IJ, you won’t hear any city noise at Tribe.
However, you can still easily get to the city center with the free ferry, which runs 24/7. The ferry brings you to the central station from where you can start your activities in Amsterdam.
Other cool activities with kids nearby the family hotel include the Nemo Museum and Wondr Experience.
ClinkNOORD Hostel

Another family hotel in Amsterdam Noord is the ClinkNOORD Hostel with family rooms at really reasonable prices.
In this case, the family rooms are 14 square meters in size, with a private bathroom, a double bed and two bunk beds. There is room for up to six people.
We also think the common rooms in the hostel are really cool. There is a lounge area with table football, a café, a library and small workspaces. There’s certainly never a dull moment for the kids.
A breakfast buffet can be booked as an option.
Via Amsterdam

We haven’t finished with the great family hostels in Amsterdam yet. We have one more! The Via Amsterdam.
It’s located outside the city center in the Venserpolder district – about 40 minutes by train – and is a really cool hybrid hostel. In other words, a combination of hotel and hostel.
For families, the hostel offers 4-bed rooms with private bathrooms and bunk beds or a private dormitory for six people.
Breakfast can be booked as an option and private parking is available for a fee.
