In a nutshell

  • The A’DAM Lookout is a 360° observation deck on the A’DAM Tower in Amsterdam — best known for its rooftop swing, where you can hang 100 meters above the city.
  • Beyond the giant swing, there are plenty more activities waiting for you — including a VR roller coaster and a seriously cool light-and-sound elevator ride.
  • You won’t find a more sweeping panoramic view over Amsterdam anywhere else in the city. Seriously.
  • Buy your ticket directly through the official online ticket shop. Our top pick is the Lookout + Thrill Ticket — it covers the elevator, observation deck, swing, and VR ride.

What is the A'DAM Lookout?

The A’DAM Lookout is a observation deck on the A’DAM Tower — a 100-meter skyscraper right on Amsterdam’s waterfront.

Inside and on top of the tower, there are several genuinely cool activities for kids and adults alike.

If you’re standing at the harbor or at Amsterdam Centraal, you can spot the building and the massive swing on the roof right away.

While the A’DAM Lookout isn’t one of the classic Amsterdam attractions, it’s honestly one of the most exciting things to do in Amsterdam in our book.

What can you do at the A'DAM Lookout?

The A’DAM Lookout packs in a surprising number of activities — all genuinely fun:

  • Experience elevator with light & sound effects: Takes you to the 20th floor in 22 seconds
  • 360º observation deck: Stunning views of the city
  • “Over the Edge” swing: Europe’s highest swing extending over the edge of the building
  • Amsterdam VR Ride: Virtual indoor roller coaster ride
  • Interactive binoculars: Explain the history of the city & its buildings
  • VR Gaming Park: Large area with a variety of VR games
  • Food & drinks: Panorama restaurant, rotating restaurant & rooftop bar
  • Free audio tour

Good to know: The A’DAM Lookout is also a fantastic choice if you’re visiting Amsterdam with kids. Children who are at least 1.20 meters tall are allowed on the swing. Two more great picks for families are the Nemo Museum and the Wondr Experience.

Our tip: Right next to the A’DAM Lookout you’ll find “This is Holland.” It’s an indoor 5D flight over the Netherlands’ top sights — complete with wind and movement. Super fun with kids, but honestly great without them too.

Or, of course, skip the swing altogether and just enjoy the view and a drink. That’s a totally valid option too.

A'DAM Lookout: Our Ticket Recommendation

When the ticket selection gets too large, things get confusing fast. To save you the headache, we specifically recommend the Lookout + Thrill Ticket.

Our Review of the A'DAM Lookout

We visited the A’DAM Lookout with two kids, ages 5 and 2. And we had a great time — even with bad weather and rain in Amsterdam.

The elevator ride alone is a real highlight. The light and sound effects are seriously impressive.

For anyone who doesn’t do well with flashing lights, there’s also a completely regular elevator.

Either way, your first stop is the observation deck on the 20th floor.

The panoramic view from up top is truly stunning. And honestly, there’s nowhere else in Amsterdam where you get a vista like this.

Along with the view, you’ll find the VR roller coaster and interactive binoculars on this level — look through them and they walk you through the city’s history and buildings.

After that, you head up a staircase to the next level, where the swing is. For wheelchair users or if you have a stroller, there’s an additional elevator — just ask the staff.

We got on the swing and swung back and forth 100 meters above Amsterdam. It’s a genuinely cool experience, but honestly not quite as spectacular as it looks from below. You only get 60 seconds of swinging — which is a real shame.

Still, you definitely shouldn’t skip this little thrill if you’re already there.

That said, if heights make you nervous and you’d rather not swing, just soak up the view. The regular ticket for around €17 is perfectly sufficient for that.

By the way: The A’DAM Lookout pairs really nicely with the NDSM Wharf — one of our favorite Amsterdam insider tips — and with Amsterdam Noord in general. We’re completely sold on this part of the city. Diverse, creative, and just something different.
